Howells-Dodge Boys beat Pender and Tekamah-Herman; Girls fall to Pendragons, beat Tigers

The Howells-Dodge Boys Basketball Team won 79-70 at Pender on Saturday, and 69-30 at home over Tekamah-Herman Monday night.

The Pendragons went up 22-13 after one before the Jaguars outscored Pender 31-9 in the 2nd quarter to go up 44-31 at halftime.

The Pendragons won the 3rd quarter 23-18 to make it a 62-54 game at the end of three.

Howells-Dodge won the 4th quarter 17-16.

The Jaguars led the Tigers 25-5 after one before winning the 2nd quarter 17-10 to take a 42-15 lead into the locker room.

Howells-Dodge outscored Tekamah-Herman 20-9 in the 3rd quarter to go up 62-24 at the end of three.

The Jaguars won the 4th quarter 7-6.

Really good wins for Howells-Dodge. The Jaguars did a great job of competing hard, in my opinion.

Howells-Dodge (12-4) plays host to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (10-6) Thursday night.

The Raiders won 44-33 at home over West Point-Beemer on Saturday.

The game was supposed to be played Tuesday night, but was postponed due to the weather.

LVSS is playing really good basketball right now, but so is Howells-Dodge.

The Jaguars have won 6 in a row and 9 out of their last 10, and are rolling right now.

Howells-Dodge plays host to Clarkson/Leigh in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament on Saturday.

I look for the Jaguars to play well against the Patriots, but Howells-Dodge has business to attend to against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder first.

The Raiders are very tough defensively, and are young, but have a lot of talent.

A player to watch for for Logan View/Scribner-Snyder is Trystain Roseberry.

He's the team's leading scorer at 13 points a game.

Connor Larson is averaging 12 a game himself and Riley Hoetfelker 8 so they've contributed in big ways also.

The Jaguars have to try and limit those three and force other players to beat them.

This will be a good, tough, stingy test for Howells-Dodge right before the EHC Tournament begins so I look for the Jaguars to continue their winning ways and play well.

I think this game being played on Thursday helps Howells-Dodge since they played on Saturday and Monday.

It also forces the Raiders to have to wait longer to play as well.

Whichever team can overcome the anxiousness and restlessness of not playing on Tuesday the quickest figures to have the best chance to win.

Both teams have extra preparation time, and that should make for an even better game than what it would of been had it been played on Tuesday.

I think the game getting moved to Thursday helps the Jaguars and gives them advantage, especially since the games are in Dodge.

The Howells-Dodge Girls lost 58-41 at Pender on Saturday, and won 48-27 at home over Tekamah-Herman Monday night.

The Pendragons doubled up the Jaguars 14-7 in the 1st quarter before outscoring Howells-Dodge 19-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 33-13 lead into the locker room.

Pender won the 3rd quarter 15-11 to extend their lead to 48-24 at the end of three.

The Jaguars outscored the Pendragons 17-10 in the 4th quarter.

Erin Prusa led the way with 17 points while Brooklyn Macholan totaled 10. Jessi Brester added 7 points and 9 rebounds.

Howells-Dodge jumped on the Tigers 12-2 at the end of one before winning the 2nd quarter 15-11 to take a 27-13 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 7 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score was 34-20 at the end of three in favor of the Jaguars.

Howells-Dodge doubled up Tekamah-Herman 14-7 in the 4th quarter.

Prusa had 20 points while Jaedyn Ratzlaff notched 8.

Good bounce back win for the Jaguars Monday night following a tough performance and slow start on Saturday.

Howells-Dodge (7-10) plays host to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (5-11) Thursday night.

The Raiders lost 54-38 at home to West Point-Beemer on Saturday.

The game was supposed to be played Tuesday night, but was postponed due to the weather.

The Jaguars take on North Bend Central in North Bend in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament on Friday.

Howells-Dodge definitely has their work cut out for them on Friday given how well the Tigers are playing right now, but a win over the Raiders on Thursday would certainly help their cause heading into Friday.

I think the Jaguars are a better team than what they showed against Pender, I just think the weather and not playing against Tekamah-Herman on Friday and sitting around kind of hurt Howells-Dodge.

The same thing could hold true for the Jaguars Thursday night with the game being postponed and everything, but the Raiders have been off since Saturday so who knows how they will come out.

Pender was coming off a big win at Wisner-Pilger two days before beating Howells-Dodge and appeared to be the fresher team, or at least the team more in game shape to start, so I think that hurt the Jaguars too.

Howells-Dodge should be ready to go on Thursday and Friday though.

The Jaguars need to get off to fast and strong starts both nights, and be on top of their game.

Things figure to be very competitive in the Conference Tournament especially, and so Howells-Dodge definitely needs to bring their best on Friday and next week also.

Not that the Jaguars can or should overlook Logan View/Scribner-Snyder though.

Howells-Dodge needs to play well Thursday night to give themselves something to go and build off of heading into the Tournament.

A win would feel much better heading into the Tournament than a loss would so the Jaguars need to play a good, strong, complete game Thursday night.

Howells-Dodge plays North Bend Central twice before the regular season ends, but if the Jaguars lose to the Tigers in the Tournament Friday night they will only play one more game in the tournament and before the regular season ends.

So Friday night is big, and picking up a win on Thursday would set the tone and stage for what's to come then I feel.
