Pender Boys 2-2 in last four games; Girls 4-0 in same stretch of games

The Pender Boys Basketball Team is 2-2 in their last four games, falling 47-39 at Wisner-Pilger Thursday night, and then 79-70 at home to Howells-Dodge on Saturday, before winning 73-58 at Madison Monday night, and 64-38 at home over Emerson-Hubbard in action aired on 107.9 the Bull Tuesday night.

The Gators jumped out to a 20-6 lead on the Pendragons at the end of one before Pender outscored Wisner-Pilger 13-4 in the 2nd quarter to make it a 24-19 game at halftime in favor of the Gators.

Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 13-10 to go up 37-29 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 10 points in the 4th quarter.

Sam Mailloux had 11 points and 12 rebounds, good enough for a double-double, while Eric Schopke totaled 11 points. Chris Rutar added 9 while Dylan Vogt had 8.

The Pendragons went up 22-13 after one before the Jaguars outscored Pender 31-9 in the 2nd quarter to go up 44-31 at halftime.

The Pendragons won the 3rd quarter 23-18 to make it a 62-54 game at the end of three.

Howells-Dodge won the 4th quarter 17-16.

Rutar and Schopke notched 20 points apiece while Mailloux notched 18 points and 11 rebounds for another double-double. Vogt totaled 8 points while Nathan Breitbarth recorded 8 rebounds.

Pender went up 19-14 at the end of one on the Dragons, and outscored Madison 15-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 34-20 lead into the locker room.

The Pendragons outscored the Dragons 22-12 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 56-32 at the end of three.

Vogt had 23 points while Mailloux added a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds. Schopke posted 14 points and 7 rebounds while Breitbarth and Rutar managed 12 and 9 rebounds, respectively.

The Pendragons won the 3rd quarter 16-9 to go up 48-22 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 16 points in the 4th quarter.

Schopke had 20 points while Mailloux notched 15. Vogt added 10 while Jaxon Maise notched 7.

I really thought Pender really picked up their play these last four games, especially on offense the last three games.

The Pendragons (6-10) host Winnebago (7-6) Thursday night.

The Indians beat Council Bluffs St. Albert, IA 71-60 in the Omaha Metro on Saturday.

This game is a huge test and a huge opportunity for Pender.

The Pendragons have played really well their last four games, and lost by five to Omaha Nation before that.

The Chiefs also beat Winnebago by 2 in overtime, and so this one between Pender and the Indians figures to be a barn burner.

A win over Winnebago could do wonders for the Pendragons' confidence heading into the East Husker Conference Tournament, in my opinion.

Pender plays Wisner-Pilger at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at Howells-Dodge in the first round of the EHC Tournament, and that figures to be another really tough test for the Pendragons as well.

Pender has played the tough teams on their schedule really close lately, now it's a matter of having both the offense and defense clicking, and winning.

The Pendragons either played well offensively or well defensively against the Chiefs, Gators, and Jaguars, just not both at the same time.

I feel Pender figured things out against Madison and Emerson-Hubbard, but can the Pendragons do it against a big time opponent in Winnebago?

I think they can, and if they do, perhaps Pender could upset Wisner-Pilger, and avenge a loss to either Howells-Dodge or Clarkson/Leigh in the EHC Tournament quarterfinals.

That's a lot of what ifs though as the Pendragons need to play very well as they have their work cut out for them the next couple of games at least.

I think Pender is peaking at the right time though.

The Pendragons have a couple road games after the Conference Tournament that look like they could and should be wins, and then have a big game against BRLD to end the regular season.

I think Pender is definitely clicking on all cylinders at the right time, and feel all there's left to do is prove themselves against some really good and talented teams.

The Pendragons are a very good and talented team themselves now it's just a matter of knocking off some of the big boys on their schedule.

The Pender Girls have really sizzled as of late, defeating Wisner-Pilger 55-33 on the road Thursday night, Howells-Dodge 58-41 at home on Saturday, Madison 52-34 on the road Monday night, and Emerson-Hubbard 59-32 at home Tuesday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Pendragons went up 11-4 at the end of one, on Wisner-Pilger and outscored the Gators 19-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-11 lead into the locker room.

Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 16-15 make it a 45-27 game at the end of three.

Pender won the 4th quarter 10-6.

Zoey Lehmkuhl had 15 points while Ashley Ostrand totaled 14 points and 7 rebounds.

The Pendragons doubled up the Jaguars 14-7 in the 1st quarter before outscoring Howells-Dodge 19-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 33-13 lead into the locker room.

Pender won the 3rd quarter 15-11 to extend their lead to 48-24 at the end of three.

The Jaguars outscored the Pendragons 17-10 in the 4th quarter.

Ostrand led all scorers with 27 points while Caitlyn Heise and Faith Morris notched 8 apiece.

Pender led the Dragons 12-7 after one, and outscored them 20-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 32-18 lead into the locker room.

The Pendragons won the 3rd quarter 13-10 to go up 45-28 at the end of three.

Pender won the 4th quarter 7-6.

Ostrand had a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds while Lehmkuhl also had a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Pendragons led the Pirates 11-5 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 8-7 to go up 19-12 at halftime.

Pender turned things on in the 2nd half, outscoring Emerson-Hubbard 15-5 in the 3rd quarter to lead 34-17 at the end of three.

The Pendragons outscored the Pirates 25-15 in the 4th quarter.

Ostrand led the way with 17 points while Lehmkuhl chipped in 11. Sarah Krueger contributed 8.

Great, wonderful, and amazing stretch of games for Pender!!!! The Pendragons are playing great basketball right now as they have won four in a row and seven out of their last eight.

Pender (10-7) plays host to Winnebago (5-8) Thursday night.

Winnebago is coming off a 59-42 loss at Ponca last Tuesday.

Winnebago is well rested whereas the Pendragons are well rested so that goes a couple of ways.

Either the Indians will be fresh and ready to go or come out slow and sluggish given how long they've been off.

On the flip side, Pender has played a lot of games lately, and I could see them coming out sluggish and tired maybe given all the games they've played lately.

That may not even be the case though as the Pendragons may come out and play lights out, which I could very well see happening too.

Pender plays Twin River at North Bend Central on Friday in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at 6:00 p.m.

The Titans figure to be a really tough matchup for the Pendragons, and Pender will have played a lot of games by that time.

If the Pendragons can pick up a win Thursday that would be great, but Friday is the big one.

I think Pender would love a shot at Oakland-Craig in the Quarterfinals on the Knights' home floor on Monday.

I think the Pendragons probably feel they can play with anyone, and they'll have their chance to prove themselves against some quality teams before season's end.

Pender has been playing great basketball lately, and has to keep it up.

The Pendragons have to be proud of what they've accomplished and use it to uplift and feel good about themselves, but still remain hungry.

Pender has two big games on Thursday and Friday that could set the tone for the GACC and Wynot games to close out the regular season.

The Pendragons have beaten the teams they're supposed to, and lost to the tough, quality teams on their schedule outside of Arlington and Howells-Dodge.

I think Pender probably wants to prove themselves against the great and elite teams, and they figure to have that chance coming up either next week or after the Conference Tournament is over.

I think given the run the Pendragons are on and how they took care of business against the Jaguars, they could very well have that chance.

If the Pendragons can get a matchup with Oakland-Craig it's anyone's ball game, especially given how tough and great the teams in this conference are.

First things first though, Pender has to worry about beating Winnebago on Thursday, and then Twin River on Friday if they hope to have a shot at playing the Knights on Monday.
