Stanton Boys 1-2 in last three games; Girls 2-1 in same stretch

The Stanton Boys Basketball Team won 41-39 at home over Oakland-Craig Friday night on a halfcourt heave by Marcus Spotanski, and then fell 49-36 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday before winning 55-43 at Plainview Tuesday night.

The Mustangs got up 8-5 on the Knights after one before Oakland-Craig won the 2nd quarter 14-13 to make it a 21-19 game at halftime in favor of Stanton.

The Mustangs won the 3rd quarter 6-4 to go up 27-23 at the end of three.

The Knights took the 4th quarter 16-14.

Spotanski had a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Sam Bates added a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds while TJ Larson had 8 rebounds.

The Raiders went up 15-4 on Stanton after one. Both teams scored 7 points in the 2nd quarter, and the score was 22-11 at halftime in favor of Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.

Both teams scored 14 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score was 36-25 at the end of three in favor of the Raiders.

The Mustangs outscored the Pirates 16-12 in the 4th quarter.

Larson had a team-high 13 points while Arens recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Spotanski had 11 points and 7 rebounds while Bates and Ben Wilke totaled 10 and 7 points, respectively.

I've been real impressed with Stanton lately. The Mustangs are playing at a really high level right now, and are continually getting better.

Stanton (4-9) plays host to Boone Central/Newman Grove (6-5) Friday night.

The Cardinals lost 61-51 at Wayne on Saturday.

The Mustangs also have Battle Creek on Saturday, and I fully expect Stanton to come out and play well this weekend.

These two games figure to be challenging for Stanton, yet I feel the Mustangs have the chance to compete and do well in them.

You take away the first quarter against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder and Stanton is right there.

A win over Oakland-Craig is big, and then to beat Plainview by 12 has to be encouraging as well.

The Mustangs have to feel good about how they've been playing lately, and must continue to do well and keep building.

I was really impressed with how many kids were in double figures against the Pirates.

Stanton has to keep it up and has to keep playing well.

The Mustangs have made some nice improvements over the course of the season so far, and need to keep it up.

Stanton is an up and coming team I feel, and is getting better with each and every game.

This is what high school sports is all about....growth and improvement as young men and student athletes and having success on the hardwood.

The Mustangs have to keep pushing themselves in practice and in games, and must do the little things well in order to be successful.

Proper ball handling techniques, rebounding position, good shooting form, and good footwork are all important for Stanton to be successful, in my opinion.

Doing the fundamental things well can go a long ways for a team, and it appears the Mustangs are doing those things well.

Stanton appears to have picked things up defensively in particular so I think defense is something the Mustangs can hang their hat on the rest of the season.

Stanton has shown they are a team to be reckoned with and a dangerous team who can beat anybody so opponents should serve notice.

The Stanton Girls nearly pulled the upset of Oakland-Craig at home Friday night, but fell 44-39. The Mustangs then went on to win 48-32 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday, and 58-24 at Plainview Tuesday night.

Stanton led the Knights 11-7 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 12-10 to take a 23-17 lead into the locker room.

Oakland-Craig doubled up Stanton 12-6 in the 3rd quarter to tie the game at 29 at the end of three.

The Knights won the 4th quarter 15-10.

Jaiden Hartl had 17 points and 8 rebounds while Jessie Brandl notched 7 points and 13 rebounds. Sylvia Cunningham added 10 rebounds.

The Mustangs held a 9-5 lead on the Raiders at the end of one. LVSS won the 2nd quarter 7-6 to make it a 15-12 game at halftime in favor of Stanton.

The Mustangs outscored the Raiders 23-7 in the 3rd quarter to go up 38-19 at the end of three.

Logan View/Scribner-Snyder won the 4th quarter 13-10.

Brandl had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds while Bree Burtwhistle notched 9 points. Hartl chipped in 8 points and 8 rebounds while Liz Christensen totaled 8 points.

The Mustangs held an 11-6 lead on the Pirates at the end of one before winning the 2nd quarter 13-9 to take a 24-15 lead into the locker room.

Stanton outscored Plainview 21-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 45-23 at the end of three.

The Mustangs outscored the Pirates 13-1 in the 4th quarter.

Hartl led the way with 15 points and 8 rebounds while Burtwhistle, Savannah Siebrandt, and Brandl added 12, 10, and 9 points, respectively.

Solid play from Stanton over their last three games I would say.

The Mustangs (8-5) host Boone Central/Newman Grove (6-5) Friday night.

The Cardinals are coming off a 47-41 win at Wayne on Saturday.

This figures to be somewhat of a challenge for Stanton, but I think the Mustangs will find a way to win.

Stanton has a couple of challenging games this weekend as the Mustangs host Battle Creek on Saturday also, but first things first, Stanton has to take care of business against Boone Central/Newman Grove.

These are games the Mustangs can't afford to lose.

Stanton has to find a way to pick up two wins this weekend.

The Mustangs have to continue to play strong defense and have their stars keep scoring a lot of points.

I feel there's still room for improvement for this team offensively, and feel like Stanton took some big steps in the right direction on both ends of the floor Tuesday night.

If the Mustangs can get on a roll before the East Husker Conference Tournament then they will be tough for anyone to play in that tournament.

I think Stanton is starting to right the ship and is getting closer to being where they want to be, but don't feel the Mustangs are there yet.

Stanton has a little time to make a run yet, and perhaps a run has already started.

I still think this team will have a lot to say about things when it's all said and done, and don't think they are anywhere near done winning big games.

The Mustangs just need to get on a roll and go on a winning streak, and if they can do that then watch out.

Everything is still in front of Stanton in terms of goals and things to accomplish so the Mustangs have to keep plugging away and keep finding ways to win.

Despite their early season struggles and close losses I still feel like Stanton is a good team and a state contender.

It would not surprise me one bit if the Mustangs have things figured out and are clicking on all cylinders at season's end.
