Oakland-Craig Boys take 3rd at Malcolm Holiday Tournament; Girls win Championship
The Oakland-Craig Boys went 1-1 at the Malcolm Holiday Tournament, falling 54-39 to Centennial on Friday before rolling Wilber-Clatonia 60-36 on Saturday in the 3rd place game.
The Knights led the Broncos 14-12 after one before Centennial won the 2nd quarter 13-10 to take a 25-24 lead into the locker room.
The Broncos won the 3rd quarter 14-9 to go up 39-33 at the end of three.
Centennial outscored Oakland-Craig 15-6 in the 4th quarter.
Wyatt Seagren had 8 points and 12 rebounds while Robby Mayberry and Colton Thomsen notched 7 points apiece.
The Knights and Wolverines were tied at 9 at the end of one before Oakland-Craig outscored Wilber-Clatonia 18-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-16 lead into the locker room.
The Knights outscored the Wolverines 20-9 in the 3rd quarter to go up 47-25 at the end of three.
Oakland-Craig won the 4th quarter 13-11.
Dodge had 19 points to lead all scorers while Thomsen was also in double figures with 18.
Big win for the Knights on Saturday, who were right there on Friday.
Oakland-Craig (7-5) takes on Stanton (2-7) on the road Friday night.
The Mustangs won 49-37 over West Holt on Monday in their own Holiday Tournament 3rd place game.
Stanton may be 2-7, but don't let their record fool you.
The Mustangs have played some tough teams this year, and have been competitive in most of their games.
Both teams lost to Wisner-Pilger by almost the same score so we'll see what happens Friday night.
I think the Knights find a way to win, but feel it will be a close game.
The big thing for Oakland-Craig is starting fast and playing a four quarter game.
If the Knights can play like they did against the Wolverines then they have a great chance to win this one.
But it's games that are slow starts or Oakland-Craig is only on for a half that really hurts them.
It will be interesting to see if the Knights can start to gain some consistency with their play Friday night.
Oakland-Craig has big games with Walthill and BRLD next week they need to gear up for so it's really important for the Knights to perform well Friday night.
All the practice time Oakland-Craig has had this week should really show up Friday night.
The big thing will be slowing down the inside game of Stanton.
Nathan Arens and Sam Bates are big forces down low, and require lots of attention.
The Knights have to be cognizant of TJ Larson and Marcus Spotanski as well.
Those three have really come on for the Mustangs lately.
Oakland-Craig needs Dodge, Mayberry, Thomsen, and Seagren to all be on also.
If Dodge and Thomsen have games like they did on Saturday when the Knights should be in good shape.
The Oakland-Craig Girls won the Malcolm Holiday Tournament, defeating Centennial 49-48 on Friday and winning the championship over Malcolm 48-39 on Saturday.
The Broncos doubled up the Knights 14-7 in the 1st quarter before Oakland-Craig outscored Centennial 11-4 in the 2nd quarter to tie the game at 18 at halftime.
The Broncos won the 3rd quarter 16-13 to go up 34-31 at the end of three.
The Knights won the 4th quarter 18-14 to make up the final score.
Dacey Nelson had a double-double of 30 points and 11 rebounds while Jeannina Blahak had 7 points.
The Clippers went up 12-9 after one before winning the 2nd quarter 12-11 to take a 24-20 lead into the locker room.
Oakland-Craig outscored Malcolm 17-9 in the 3rd quarter to go up 37-33 at the end of three.
The Knights won the 4th quarter 11-6.
Nelson had 17 points while Blahak notched 8 points and 18 rebounds. Grace Pille chipped in 7 rebounds.
Great Tournament Championship for Oakland-Craig!!! Way to go!!!
The Knights (10-0) take on Stanton (6-4) on the road Friday night.
The Mustangs defeated West Holt 46-28 in their own Holiday Tournament Championship Game on Monday.
Stanton may be 6-4, but the Mustangs appeared to have snapped out of their little early season funk they were in.
You know the Mustangs will want to get payback after Oakland-Craig upset them when they were undefeated last year.
It's kind of a reversal of roles this time around.
I think it all depends if Kennedy Benne is back or not.
If she is, then I don't see any way the Knights lose this game.
But if not, then I would expect Stanton to do a box and one or something of that nature on Nelson.
The Mustangs are a very good defensive team so we'll see what happens.
The way Oakland-Craig is rolling and playing right now though I don't know if they can be beat.
The Knights have refused to lose all season long, and that has been great.
Oakland-Craig is rolling right now and not much appears to be slowing them down.
Nelson is a great player, and it has been very exciting to cover her feats this season.
Blahak really came on to over the Holidays, and she could prove to play a big factor down the line for the Knights as well.
I'm really excited to see what this team can be when Benne returns.
Oakland-Craig is having a very special season, and the Knights could achieve things beyond their wildest dreams and imagination.
Oakland-Craig has to keep dreaming big every day, and continue to work hard, and keep achieving greatness.
This is a great elite team and squad, and there's a reason why the Knights are 10-0 on the season.
