North Bend Central Boys defeat Wayne, Bergan, and Scotus; Girls down Blue Devils and Shamrocks, fall to Knights
The North Bend Central Boys Basketball Team won 58-39 at home over Wayne Thursday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before downing Fremont Bergan 59-44 on the road Saturday, and Columbus Scotus 69-49 at home Tuesday night.
The Blue Devils went up 14-13 at the end of one before the Tigers won the 2nd quarter 13-12 to tie the game at 26 at halftime.
North Bend Central blew the hinges off the door in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Wayne 26-1 to lead 52-27 at the end of three.
Head Coach Jon Baehr. "We just talked about going out and being a little more sound with what we were doing. We struggled with some ball screens early, so we made a slight adjustment on how we were guarding those ball screens. And then offensively we just wanted to get out and play with a little better flow, get to the rim a little bit more, get some foul shots, and I thought we were able to accomplish that there in the 3rd quarter. And Wayne's a really good team so I think we played about the best 8 minutes of basketball we've played all year during that time."
The Blue Devils doubled up the Tigers 12-6 in the 4th quarter.
John Emanuel had 25 points for North Bend Central, which led all scorers, while Chase Ruzicka had 8. Tanner Wietfeld notched 7.
Baehr on Emanuel. "He is such a dynamic player, and he's so strong. He creates so many opportunities for himself by just playing within the flow of the game. And this isn't new to him. We have a bunch of guys who can score the ball, but he was our leading scorer last year so it's not a surprise to see him come out and score in the mid 20's and kind of get us going. We were in a little foul trouble with Tanner and Jaxon (Wietfeld) both in foul trouble, and John was just dynamite picking that up for us."
Emanuel had 18 points against the Knights while Tanner Wietfeld notched 14.
The Tigers led the Shamrocks 17-12 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 12-11 to take a 29-23 lead into the locker room.
North Bend Central outscored Scotus 29-19 in the 3rd quarter to go up 58-42 at the end of three.
The Tigers won the 4th quarter 11-7.
Ruzicka had 16 points while Tanner Wietfeld posted 15. Emanuel added 14 while Austin Endorf notched 13.
North Bend Central simply continues to play great basketball.
The Tigers (12-1) host Oakland-Craig (9-7) Thursday night.
The Knights defeated Tekamah-Herman 72-34 on the road Tuesday night.
Oakland-Craig is definitely not a bad team, but North Bend Central is having a spectacular season.
The Tigers have to keep the ball rolling Thursday night against the Knights.
Oakland-Craig comes to North Bend, and I'm sure the Tigers would love to just come out and dominate.
North Bend Central has to start fast, and hit the Knights in the mouth.
The Tigers have to come out and run and gun and knock down 3's.
North Bend Central has to blitz Oakland-Craig and get out to a big lead.
The East Husker Conference Tournament is coming up so this game and next week's two are big for East Husker Conference Tournament Seeding purposes.
The Tigers have to come out and play championship basketball the way they have all season.
Nothing should change for North Bend Central Thursday night.
The Tigers have to come out and do what they've been doing all season, which is playing great basketball and getting after people.
North Bend Central has to defend Oakland-Craig's shooters well and create turnovers with their press.
The Tigers have to turn good defense into good offense, and let their defense lead to big things on offense.
North Bend Central can't take the Knights lightly or for granted though.
Oakland-Craig has looked really good at times, and if the Knights play lights out then this could be very interesting.
I would think the Tigers will win and continue their dominant ways, but you never know as anyone can be beaten on any given night.
So North Bend Central has to be on top of their game and must aim high like they have all season.
The North Bend Central Girls Basketball Team topped Wayne 50-32 at home Thursday night before falling 57-50 at Fremont Bergan on Saturday, and rebounding to win 38-24 at home over Columbus Scotus Tuesday night.
North Bend Central led the Blue Devils 12-10 at the end of one, and outscored Wayne 13-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 25-15 lead into the locker room.
The Tigers outscored the Blue Devils 14-8 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 39-23 at the end of three.
North Bend Central won the 4th quarter 11-9.
Lauren Emanuel led the Tigers and all scorers with 19 points while Megan Ortmeier chipped in 13.
Bergan led 16-11 after one. North Bend Central outscored the Knights 16-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-23 lead into the locker room.
Bergan outscored the Tigers 15-6 in the 3rd quarter to go up 38-33 at the end of three.
The Knights won the 4th quarter 19-17.
The Tigers led the Shamrocks 5-4 after one. North Bend Central won the 2nd quarter 8-6 to take a 13-10 lead into the locker room.
The 3rd quarter was the difference in the game as the Tigers outscored Scotus 15-4 to go up 28-14 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 10 points in the 4th quarter.
Impressive stretch of games for North Bend Central to say the least.
The Tigers (9-6) host undefeated Oakland-Craig (14-0) Thursday night.
The Knights won 62-38 at Tekamah-Herman Tuesday night.
This game was supposed to be played Friday night, but was moved up due to the impending weather.
It should be a good, close, compelling, entertaining, and interesting ball game.
I look for North Bend Central to come out and play well against and challenge Oakland-Craig.
The game figures to be low scoring and defensive like last year's game.
I think offense is going to be big in this one.
The Tigers will definitely need to put up 50 points or more to win this one I feel.
The Knights are led by the likes of Dacey Nelson and Kennedy Benne.
Those are two very good and dynamic players for Oakland-Craig and require a lot of attention.
I fully expect North Bend Central to have a good game plan to try and slow them down.
NBC has to take a page out of Tekamah-Herman's book as they held Nelson to 14 points.
Either way this is a huge game and big time opportunity for the Tigers.
North Bend Central has to come out and play with toughness, tenacity, fire, grit, determination, passion, and pride.
The Tigers have to keep things close throughout the game to have a chance at the end.
Any team can be beat on any given night, especially in this conference, and so North Bend Central has to keep that in mind and try to become the first team to beat Oakland-Craig this season.
The Tigers should win their next two games after this one prior to the East Husker Conference Tournament, but this game is important for tournament seeding.
North Bend Central has to come out and give it their best shot and leave everything out on the floor Thursday night.
Both teams are on short rest so it will be interesting to see which team adjusts to playing a day earlier better if that even factors into this game at all.
