Good strong play from the Pirates their last three games.
Emerson-Hubbard (4-11) takes on Pender (4-9) on the road Tuesday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
The Pendragons lost 47-39 at Wisner-Pilger Thursday night.
This is a big game as both teams are in the same Sub-District.
Of course there was a lot of talk about Emerson-Hubbard and Pender combining in some sports in the offseason although Boys Basketball was not one of them.
The Pirates really have to get after the Pendragons for four quarters, and play the way they have lately.
Emerson-Hubbard can definitely win this one as the Sub-District is wide open.
This one is big for the Pirates as a win would boost their confidence no doubt.
Emerson-Hubbard has to be confident heading into this one too.
The Pirates just beat Wynot and Homer, and played Wakefield to 9 points.
Belt and Kneifl need to have big games for Emerson-Hubbard.
The way those two have performed lately has been incredible, and Emerson-Hubbard needs to continue to get great production from them.
They're not only doing it offensively, but defensively as well.
The Pirates are getting better, and a win over the Pendragons would be another huge step in the right direction.
Emerson-Hubbard is seeing Pender at a good time based on how well the Pirates are playing right now.
The stage couldn't be any more set or bigger for the Pirates to go out there and win.
Emerson-Hubbard has to have a good game on both ends of the floor, and try and contain Sam Mailoux.
The Pirates have to body him up and try and outrebound him if at all possible.
Emerson-Hubbard has to be tough, tenacious, and physical, and can't back down from Pender whatsoever.
The Pirates have to play to win, and not not to lose.
The game will be aired on the Bull after the Girls Game, which is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
The Emerson-Hubbard Girls are also 2-2 in their last four games, winning 56-39 at Osmond last Friday night before falling 62-32 at home to Wynot last Saturday, and 49-25 at Homer Tuesday night, before winning 49-45 at home over Wakefield-Allen Thursday night.
The Pirates jumped out to an 18-3 lead on the Tigers at the end of one. Both teams scored 9 points in the 2nd quarter, and the halftime score was 27-12 at halftime in favor of Emerson-Hubbard.
Osmond won the 3rd quarter 16-15 to make it a 42-28 game at the end of three.
The Pirates won the 4th quarter 14-11.
Melanie Gentrup had 30 points and 8 rebounds while Addison Mackling totaled 12 points. Taylor Daum added 8 points and 9 rebounds while Brynn Schock notched 8 rebounds.
The Blue Devils doubled up the Pirates 12-6 in the 1st quarter, and quadrupled them up 20-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 32-11 lead into the locker room.
Wynot won the 3rd quarter 15-11 to extend their lead to 47-22 at the end of three.
The Blue Devils won the 4th quarter 15-10.
Gentrup had 16 points while Mackling notched 7. Daum added 7 rebounds.
The Knights went up 11-4 after one, and outscored Emerson-Hubbard 9-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 20-6 lead into the locker room.
Homer outscored the Pirates 19-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 39-10 at the end of three.
Emerson-Hubbard won the 4th quarter 15-10.
Mackling led the way with 10 points while Daum posted 7 rebounds.
The Pirates were tied at 8 with Wakefield-Allen at the end of one. Emerson-Hubbard won the 2nd quarter 12-11 to take a 20-19 lead into the locker room.
The Pirates outscored Wakefield-Allen 11-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 31-24 at the end of three.
Wakefield-Allen won the 4th quarter 21-18.
Good play for Emerson-Hubbard against Osmond and Wakefield-Allen compared to struggles against Wynot and Homer.
The Pirates (6-9) take on Pender (7-7) on the road Tuesday night in action that will be aired on 107. the Bull.
The Pendragons won 55-33 at Wisner-Pilger Thursday night.
These two teams might have similar records, but Pender plays an extremely difficult schedule.
The Pendragons are tough, and beating them on their home floor will not be easy.
Of course Emerson-Hubbard approached Pender about combining in Girls Basketball and Volleyball among other sports this past offseason.
So there's things from that standpoint and the fact these two are kind of rivals and combine in other sports at different levels already.
The Pirates are going to need to play really well to win.
The good news is Pender has games on Saturday and Monday so in terms of being rested and fresh and healthy I would think the two teams would be in about the same shape given Emerson-Hubbard's depth.
It's a rivalry game, and certainly anything can happen.
The Pirates have to be optimistic, and must believe in themselves and one another.
Emerson-Hubbard has picked up some key wins this year, and I think that will help them heading into this one.
The Pendragons did beat Homer 53-45 though so the Pirates will certainly need to play much better than they did against the Knights if they hope to knock off Pender.
What's also working against Emerson-Hubbard is Pender plays a lot of good C-1 and C-2 teams.
So do the Pirates, but the way the Pendragons have been playing lately makes them extremely tough.
I think Emerson-Hubbard's best chance at a win is if Pender is tired and worn down.
They may not be though so the Pirates have to be ready to give it their all for four quarters like they have all season.
Emerson-Hubbard will have been well rested by Tuesday so that should help.
The Pirates have to continue to maximize their potential with the 8 girls they have out for the team.
I think Emerson-Hubbard has done really well this year for only having that many girls out for the team.
