Clarkson/Leigh Boys lose to Humphrey St. Francis, beat Pender; Girls win over both

The Clarkson/Leigh Boys Basketball Team lost 67-33 at home to Humphrey St. Francis Friday night before winning 68-53 at Pender on Saturday.

The Flyers jumped out to a 17-9 lead at the end of one before St. Francis won the 2nd quarter 14-12 to take a 31-21 lead into the locker room.

The Flyers outscored the Patriots 16-7 in the 3rd quarter to go up 47-28 at the end of three.

St. Francis quadrupled up Clarkson/Leigh 20-5 in the 4th quarter.

Jarred Novotny had 16 points while Carter Hanel posted 9 rebounds.

The Patriots led the Pendragons 15-11 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 20-17 to take a 35-28 lead into the locker room.

Clarkson/Leigh won the 3rd quarter 13-11 to go up 48-39 at the end of three.

The Patriots outscored Pender 20-14 in the 4th quarter.

Daniel Beller had 26 points and 17 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Novotny added 20 while Hanel and Isaak Wiese notched 10 and 7, respectively.

What a difference having Beller back made for Clarkson/Leigh on Saturday.

The Patriots (4-7) battle Twin River (7-8) on the road Thursday night.

The Titans lost 51-40 at home to Wisner-Pilger Tuesday night.

If Clarkson/Leigh plays the way they did against the Pendragons then they can definitely come away with the win.

The Patriots need the same type of scoring output they got on Saturday.

That game against Pender is the blueprint for success and winning.

Clarkson/Leigh played about as well as they have all year in that game I would say.

If the Patriots play like that from here on out then look out.

Beller and Novotny make a nice one two scoring punch.

Clarkson/Leigh has to be sky high with confidence right now given the result of Saturday's game.

The Patriots have to use it to go beat the Titans, Lutheran High Northeast, and Wisner-Pilger prior to the East Husker Conference Tournament.

Clarkson/Leigh also has to get Tommy McEvoy going again.

If he starts scoring double digits and a high amount of points again too then this team is only going to be that much better.

The Patriots have had some games not go their way this year, but perhaps the win over the Pendragons will allow Clarkson/Leigh to gain some consistency.

The Patriots now know what it's like to pick up a big road win, and that should help them the rest of the season I would think.

Clarkson/Leigh has to get ready to give the Titans all they can want and handle.

The Patriots should definitely feel confident heading into this one given how well they played against Pender on Saturday.

I bet it felt good for Beller to get back, and now that he's back Clarkson/Leigh has to really go to work and make some hay.

A road win over Twin River would be huge without a doubt so hopefully the Patriots are able to get the job done.

The Clarkson/Leigh Girls picked up a huge 53-46 home win over Humphrey St. Francis Friday night before winning 38-35 at Pender on Saturday.

The Patriots led the Flyers 10-9 at the end of one. St. Francis won the 2nd quarter 12-8 to take a 21-18 lead into the locker room.

Clarkson/Leigh doubled up the Flyers 16-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 34-29 at the end of three.

The Patriots won the 4th quarter 19-17.

Kaegan Held notched 24 points while Ashlynn Novotny registered 12 points and 7 rebounds.

The Patriots led the Pendragons 12-9 at the end of the 1st quarter. Pender outscored Clarkson/Leigh 12-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 21-17 lead into the locker room.

The Patriots outscored the Pendragons 8-3 in the 3rd quarter to go up 25-24 at the end of three.

Clarkson/Leigh won the 4th quarter 13-11.

Held had 14 points while Hannah Kasik totaled 13 points and 7 rebounds. Novotny posted 7 rebounds.

Huge wins for the Patriots over the weekend!!!! What a great win on Friday in particular!!!!

Clarkson/Leigh (11-2) takes on Twin River (9-6) on the road Thursday night.

The Titans won 33-29 at home over Wisner-Pilger Tuesday night.

The Titans beat Humphrey St. Francis by a point, 48-47, on December 20th in Humphrey.

So I think the Patriots can definitely get this one, but if they do it will probably be a close, tight, and low scoring victory.

This game is huge for East Husker Conference Tournament seeding.

I feel Clarkson/Leigh should probably get the 4 seed in the tournament, and maybe even the 3 if they keep winning and depending on how Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family does.

The Patriots have a really good team this year, and have been playing good, consistent basketball all season long.

Clarkson/Leigh has beaten great teams and earned all the recognition and accolades I'm giving them.

The Patriots have definitely proven to be one of the top teams in the conference, area, and perhaps even the State.

C-2 is a very tough class this year, especially in this area, and Clarkson/Leigh is among the best of the best.

Now with that said, the Patriots still have a lot to accomplish and do yet this season.

If Clarkson/Leigh can get this one against Twin River they should be able to win their next two games before the East Husker Conference Tournament begins.

The Patriots have to come and play physical, and be ready for the slow half court grind.

Clarkson/Leigh has to stay mentally tough and knock down free throws and convert easy layups.

The Patriots' minds and heads have to be in the game at all times no matter the situation.

Clarkson/Leigh has to be aggressive on offense, yet smart, picking their spots and times to attack and score.

Having good rebounding position and grabbing the ball cleanly and winning all the loose balls are also big in a game like this I feel.

The Patriots just have to remain calm regardless of the score and situation, yet make plays when necessary to win the game.
