West Point-Beemer Boys beat Norfolk Catholic in abbreviated Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout; Girls go 2-0

The West Point-Beemer Boys Basketball Team routed Norfolk Catholic 58-38 at the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout at Wayne State on Monday.

The Cadets led 15-8 after one before winning the 2nd quarter 16-14 to take a 31-22 lead into the locker room.

West Point-Beemer won the 3rd quarter 14-9 to extend their lead to 45-31 at the end of three.

The Cadets outscored the Knights 13-7 in the 4th quarter.

Ben Vander Griend recorded 15 points while Zach Vander Griend and Jesus Barragan totaled 14 apiece. Blake Anderson posted 7.

Great performance by West Point-Beemer. It's too bad the Cadets only got to play one game in the Tournament though.

West Point-Beemer (4-3) takes on Wisner-Pilger (7-2) on the road Friday night.

The Gators knocked off Ponca 48-44 in the Shootout on the Elkhorn Holiday Tournament at Wisner on Monday.

Wisner-Pilger is as hot as anyone right now as they've won four in a row.

The Gators are also veteran laden and experienced, plus they're at home.

That makes for a difficult game for the Cadets, but it's a rivalry and anything can happen.

I was very impressed with West Point-Beemer on Monday.

The Cadets need another effort like that Friday night.

West Point-Beemer has to go into Wisner and spoil the party for the Gators.

Wisner-Pilger is in the midst of going on a big run, and the Cadets could perhaps ruin or least damper it with a win.

West Point-Beemer has to play the role of spoiler and feel like they have absolutely nothing to lose in this game.

The Cadets have to play with a lot of emotion, toughness, and physicality.

West Point-Beemer has to defend well and shoot the ball with confidence.

Anderson needs a big game as does Barragan and Ben and Zach Vander Griend.

There's a lot of talent on this team, it's just the Cadets are young.

West Point-Beemer is going up against a tough experienced team that is pretty much made up of Seniors and Juniors.

So the Cadets definitely have their work cut out for them in this one, but it's a rivalry game and anything can happen.

West Point-Beemer can't back down from Wisner-Pilger.

The Cadets have to focus on slowing down Dylan Kneifl.

He is lethal from both the outside and inside so West Point-Beemer has to put a body on him and know where he's at on the court at all times.

The West Point-Beemer Girls downed Arlington for the 2nd time this season at the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout at Wayne State on Saturday, winning 42-23. The Cadets turned around and beat Hartington Cedar Catholic 57-44 at the Tournament on Monday.

West Point-Beemer led 7-4 after one on the Eagles before winning the 2nd quarter 13-10 to take a 20-14 lead into the locker room.

The Cadets outscored Arlington 16-6 in the 3rd quarter to go up 36-20 at the end of the third quarter.

West Point-Beemer doubled up the Eagles 6-3 in the 4th quarter.

Sierra Kile had 12 points while Sidney Swanson totaled 10. Andrea Hoffman chipped in 9.

The Cadets led the Trojans 15-10 after one before Cedar Catholic won the 2nd quarter 13-12 to make it a 27-23 game at halftime in favor of West Point-Beemer.

The Trojans won the 3rd quarter 14-13, and the score was 40-37 at the end of three in favor of the Cadets.

West Point-Beemer outscored Cedar Catholic 17-7 in the 4th quarter.

Swanson led all scorers with 22 points while Kile notched 18.

Strong start and finish to the Cedar Catholic game for the Cadets.

West Point-Beemer (9-0) takes on Wisner-Pilger (4-6) on the road Friday night.

The Gators won 55-36 at Madison Thursday night.

Wisner-Pilger has won 3 out of their last 4 and appears to be playing better basketball than they were earlier in the season.

The Gators also upset rival Stanton right before Christmas so you know Wisner-Pilger is brimming with confidence right now.

The Gators have to have the Cadets' attention at the very least.

This is a big weekend for West Point-Beemer with a home date with BRLD on Saturday.

The Cadets have to continue to take things one game at a time, but I could see West Point-Beemer being undefeated until they play Oakland-Craig either at Conference or the end of the regular season.

I feel the conference tournament could very well come down to those two, and feel this could be the Cadets year to breakthrough and make state.

There's a lot of basketball left to be played yet though, and West Point-Beemer has to be focused on picking up two wins this weekend.

Wisner-Pilger and BRLD are good quality teams, and the Cadets need to be on top of their game this weekend.

West Point-Beemer is off to an amazing start so we'll see if the Cadets can keep it up.

This team is the complete deal with scorers and defense.

This team plays good offense and outstanding defense.

West Point-Beemer has shooters who can score from anywhere on the floor.

This is the Cadets' year, and West Point-Beemer has to continue to make their dreams come true, one game at a time.

It will be interesting to see if either team this weekend can push the Cadets to the brink.

I think West Point-Beemer needs a thrilling game, a thrilling win to really feel the true emotion of this great run they are on.

Perhaps it will come this weekend or at some other point in the season.
