Stanton Boys 1-2 in last three games; Girls 3-0 in same stretch

The Stanton Boys Basketball Team won 69-62 in overtime at home over Boone Central/Newman Grove last Friday night before falling 61-49 at home to Battle Creek on Saturday, and 62-44 at home to Madison Tuesday night.

The Mustangs got out to a 15-8 lead on the Cardinals at the end of one before Boone Central/Newman Grove outscored Stanton 15-8 in the 2nd quarter to tie the game at 23 at halftime.

The Cardinals won the 3rd quarter 20-15 to go up 43-38 at the end of three.

Stanton won the 4th quarter 18-13.

The Mustangs outlasted Boone Central/Newman Grove 13-6 in the 4th quarter.

TJ Larson had 20 points while Parker Krusemark totaled 15. Marcus Spotanski added a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds while Sam Bates had 10 points and 9 rebounds. Nathan Arens chipped in 8 points and 10 rebounds.

The Dragons went up 18-14 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 14-10 to take a 32-24 lead into the locker room.

Madison won the 3rd quarter 12-8 to go up 44-32 at the end of three.

The Dragons outscored Stanton 18-12 in the 4th quarter.

Spotanski led the way with 15 points while Larson notched 10. Bates chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds while Arens registered 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Great win for the Mustangs last Friday, but tough losses on Saturday and Tuesday.

Stanton (5-11) is scheduled to take on BRLD (12-1) on the road Saturday.

The Wolverines won 68-55 at Wakefield Tuesday night.

This game is weather permitting of course.

If they play the Mustangs have to go into this game unafraid of BRLD whatsoever.

Stanton has to play fearless and with no regard for human life.

The Mustangs have to go into Bancroft or Lyons with absolutely nothing to lose.

No one expects Stanton to win except maybe for the team.

Anyone can be beaten on any given night though, and who knows that will happen since BRLD didn't play on Friday.

Both teams have probably been cooped up indoors with the weather the way it is, and that's never a good thing.

Both just have to mentally prepare themselves as if they're going to play.

This is an important game for East Husker Conference Tournament seeding.

An upset would really hurt the Wolverines and help the Mustangs.

Where Stanton has to get it done is on the defensive end.

The Mustangs can win when giving up over 60 points, but it's tough as evident by the results of the last two games.

If Stanton could kick their offense into high gear and hold BRLD to under 50 points they definitely could win.

Much easier said than done though given how good the Wolverines are on both ends of the floor.

The Mustangs definitely have their work cut out in this one, but anything can happen as evident by how Howells-Dodge beat BRLD.

Stanton has absolutely nothing to lose in this one so the Mustangs have to go in there and play pressure free and relaxed.

The Stanton Girls edged Boone Central/Newman Grove 42-39 at home last Friday night before winning 44-34 at home over Battle Creek on Saturday, and 62-12 at home over Madison Tuesday night.

The Mustangs led 12-11 at the end of one against the Cardinals. Boone Central/Newman Grove outscored Stanton 15-9 in the 2nd quarter to take a 26-21 lead into the locker room.

The Mustangs won the 3rd quarter 9-7 to make it a 33-30 game at the end of three.

Stanton doubled up the Cardinals 12-6 in the 4th quarter to make up the final score.

Jessie Brandl led the way with 13 points and 8 rebounds while Jaiden Hartl added 12 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Bree Burtwhistle added 9 points while Liz Christensen recorded 8.

The Mustangs led the Bravettes 8-7 at the end of one. Battle Creek won the 2nd quarter 10-6 to go up 17-14 at halftime.

Stanton won the 3rd quarter 13-12 to make it a 29-27 game at the end of three in favor of the Bravettes.

The Mustangs outscored Battle Creek 17-5 in the 4th quarter.

Hartl totaled 17 points and 9 rebounds while Christensen chipped in 10 points. Brandl posted 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Stanton jumped in front of the Dragons 21-5 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Mustangs outscored the Dragons 18-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-9 lead into the locker room.

Stanton outscored Madison 13-3 in the 3rd quarter to go up 52-12 at the end of three.

The Mustangs shutout the Dragons 10-0 in the 4th quarter.

Brandl led the way with 12 points while Burtwhistle and Sylvia Cunningham notched 10 apiece. Hartl added 7.

Great stretch of games for Stanton. The Mustangs are starting to really hit their stride it appears.

Stanton (11-5) takes on BRLD (11-4) on the road Saturday.

The Wolverines won 57-49 at Wakefield-Allen Tuesday night.

This figures to be a very close and entertaining ball game assuming it gets played as it is weather permitting of course.

I think offense is going to be the key in this one.

We know Stanton can clamp down and play great defense, but can the Mustangs score enough to beat the Wolverines?

I think the answer is yes unless BRLD's defense plays the way it did against West Point-Beemer.

The Wolverines have actually played pretty good defense overall for the most part this season so Stanton's offense is really going to need to bring it.

BRLD can put up a lot of points too and fill up the stat sheet so the Mustangs have to be ready to go defensively as well.

I feel both ends of the floor are going to be very important for Stanton.

The Mustangs have to defend well and bog the Wolverines down offensively, and be good on offense.

This game has all the makings of a great game as these two teams had three great battles last year.

Stanton can definitely win, but it won't be easy.

The game is big for East Husker Conference Tournament seeding though.

The Mustangs have a lot on the line, and need to come through and play well.

Both teams have been playing well lately as Stanton has won 7 out of their last 8 and BRLD 3 out of their last 4 so something has to give in this one.

The Mustangs can definitely do it they just have to figure out how to solve the Wolverines and what they bring to the table.

It should be an excellent game that comes down to the wire and possibly even goes into overtime, who knows.

Things like making layups, getting steals, and hitting free throws are all really big in a game like this I would say.
