Howells-Dodge Boys and Girls go 1-1 at own Holiday Tournament
The Howells-Dodge Boys Basketball Team won 73-31 over Homer at their own Holiday Tournament on Friday before falling 56-34 to BRLD in Saturday's Championship Game.
The Jaguars led the Knights 16-10 after one before outscoring Homer 22-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 38-13 lead into the locker room.
Howells-Dodge outscored the Knights 23-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 61-21 at the end of three.
The Jaguars won the 4th quarter 12-10.
The Jaguars led BRLD 8-4 at the end of one. The Wolverines won the 2nd quarter 12-9 to make it a 17-16 game at halftime in favor of Howells-Dodge.
BRLD outscored the Jaguars 19-8 in the 3rd quarter to pull in front 36-24 at the end of three.
The Wolverines outscored Howells-Dodge 21-9 in the 4th quarter.
Credit the Jaguars for blowing out the Knights and beating BRLD at halftime.
Howells-Dodge (6-4) battles Humphrey St. Francis (8-2) at home Friday night.
The Flyers lost 54-43 to Auburn in the Nebraska Wesleyan Holiday Tournament Championship Game on Saturday.
Humphrey St. Francis is a great team and program, but the Jaguars have already beaten a team just as great if not greater in BRLD.
If Howells-Dodge can upset the Wolverines then they can certainly beat the Flyers.
The Jaguars have to get amped and and psyched for this one, and must be ready to take the fight to Humphrey St. Francis for four quarters.
Howells-Dodge has to come out with lots of intensity and fire, and must play with toughness, grit, determination, passion, and pride.
The Jaguars need to have a good game plan and execute it to perfection.
Howells-Dodge has to be ready to roll and must play a good game and be ready to rock and roll from the get go.
The place has to be electric, and the Jaguars have to get ready to pull off a big upset.
Howells-Dodge has already proven to be kind of a giant slayer this year, and we'll see if that trend continues Friday night.
The Jaguars have to get up for this game and be ready to play great basketball for four quarters.
Having the entire week to practice and get back into tip top playing shape should really help Howells-Dodge.
The Jaguars have to find a way to score the ball well like they have for much of the season.
Howells-Dodge has only struggled to score in 2-3 ball games this season, and so getting back in the gym and shooting and that sort of thing should really help I would think.
I look for the Jaguars to come out and play well Friday night, and perhaps pull the upset.
Really looking forward to broadcasting Howells-Dodge at Plainview on Saturday so hopefully I'm talking about a Jaguar win the night before when I talk about them on Saturday.
Howells-Dodge has to be confident and must believe in themselves heading into Friday night's contest.
The Howells-Dodge Girls lost 58-43 to GACC on Friday in their opening game of their own Holiday Tournament before downing Homer 59-45 for 3rd place on Saturday.
The Jaguars led the Bluejays 13-12 after one before winning the 2nd quarter 12-11 to take a 25-23 lead into the locker room.
GACC outscored Howells-Dodge 24-10 in the 3rd quarter to go up 47-35 at the end of three.
The Bluejays won the 4th quarter 11-8.
Jessi Brester had 19 points and 7 rebounds while Erin Prusa notched 10 points and 8 rebounds.
The Jaguars and Knights were tied at 13 at the end of one before Howells-Dodge won the 2nd quarter 17-15 to take a 30-28 lead into the locker room.
The Jaguars outscored Homer 12-7 in the 3rd quarter to increase their lead to 42-35 at the end of three, and the 4th quarter 17-10 to make up the final score.
Prusa poured in 29 points to lead all scorers and had 7 rebounds while Jessi Brester totaled 18 points and 7 rebounds. Cassie Pieper added 9 points.
Nice bounce back win for Howells-Dodge on Saturday. It was nice to see the Jaguars pick up a win after going through a gauntlet of a schedule.
Howells-Dodge (2-8) hosts Humphrey St. Francis (10-1) Friday night.
The Flyers won the Nebraska Wesleyan Holiday Tournament last week.
The Jaguars definitely have their work cut out for them in this one, but I think Howells-Dodge can make this one interesting.
After all the Jaguars are only two years removed from a State Championship.
The schedule is really favorable for Howells-Dodge in the second half of the season, and I think it's kind of a thing where the Jaguars can maybe take a step back now and hit the reset button.
This is the last scheduled really difficult game for Howells-Dodge, and I look for the Jaguars to take off after this.
Howells-Dodge has to really get after things against the Flyers though.
The Jaguars have to play a great game and put forth a great and fantastic effort.
Howells-Dodge has to find ways to score against a great defense and ways to slow down a very good offense.
Humphrey St. Francis is a complete team, and the Jaguars are going to need to play extremely well to beat them.
The Jaguars have to play out of their minds and play the game of their lives on Friday.
Howells-Dodge takes on Plainview on the road Saturday, and I'm excited to call some Jaguar basketball on the Bull.
Howells-Dodge has a huge opportunity in front of them on Friday, and I'm excited to see how they do.
I really think the Jaguars are a better team than their record indicates.
If anything I look for Howells-Dodge to give Humphrey St. Francis a great game, and turn in a wonderful performance.
Upsets can happen at any time, and the Jaguars have to really go out there and play to win, and have to really want it.
Howells-Dodge has to believe and must play optimistic basketball.
