Tekamah-Herman Boys lose to Fort Calhoun and Howells-Dodge; Girls beat Pioneers, fall to Jaguars
The Tekamah-Herman Boys Basketball Team lost 59-28 at Fort Calhoun last Thursday night, and fell 69-30 at Howells-Dodge Monday night.
The Pioneers led 15-2 after one, and outscored the Tigers 23-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 38-9 lead into the locker room.
Fort Calhoun won the 3rd quarter 9-7 to go up 47-16 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 12 points in the 4th quarter.
The Jaguars led the Tigers 25-5 after one before winning the 2nd quarter 17-10 to take a 42-15 lead into the locker room.
Howells-Dodge outscored Tekamah-Herman 20-9 in the 3rd quarter to go up 62-24 at the end of three.
The Jaguars won the 4th quarter 7-6.
Slow starts to both games really hurt the Tigers I feel.
Tekamah-Herman (1-16) takes on Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (12-3) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Humphrey on Saturday.
The Bulldogs lost 83-71 in overtime at home to BRLD Monday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.
The Tigers definitely have their work cut out for themselves in this one, but an upset can definitely take place, especially with it being the conference tournament and everything.
Tekamah-Herman has been off since Monday, and five days of solid preparation should allow the Tigers to play the best they can.
Tekamah-Herman has to start the game a lot stronger than they did the Fort Calhoun and Howells-Dodge games.
Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family jumped out to a big lead on BRLD before the Wolverines came back, but if the Bulldogs get up big on the Tigers it could spell doom for Tekamah-Herman.
You know Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family will be upset given what happened against BRLD too, and will be out for vengeance.
I'm sure the Bulldogs have their sights set on big things in this tournament, but I'm willing to bet the Tigers would love nothing more than to spoil the party.
Games aren't played on paper, and there's a reason why they play the games.
Anyone can be beaten on any given night, and Tekamah-Herman has to believe that and play optimistic basketball.
The Tigers have to go into this one confident and with a belief that they can win and get the job done.
Tekamah-Herman has to be positive and feel good about their chances Saturday night.
It's somewhat of a long bus ride and a long wait to play on Saturday, but the Tigers have to be as mentally prepared as possible.
Tekamah-Herman has to go into Humphrey with an optimistic approach and attitude, and feel that they can win.
Not a lot of people are giving the Tigers a chance I'm sure, but that doesn't matter as long as the team believes in themselves and in one another.
Tekamah-Herman has to block out all outside distractions and things of that nature, and go out there and play their game.
The game will tip-off after the Logan View/Scribner-Snyder and Stanton game set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
The Tekamah-Herman Girls won 40-37 at Fort Calhoun last Thursday night before falling 48-27 at Howells-Dodge Monday night.
The Tigers trailed the Pioneers 14-12 after one, and led 29-28 after three.
Jadyn Fleischman led the Tigers with 16 points against the Pioneers, followed by Anna Wakehouse with 8 and Halle Olsen with 7.
Howells-Dodge jumped on the Tigers 12-2 at the end of one before winning the 2nd quarter 15-11 to take a 27-13 lead into the locker room.
Both teams scored 7 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score was 34-20 at the end of three in favor of the Jaguars.
Howells-Dodge doubled up Tekamah-Herman 14-7 in the 4th quarter.
Good win for the Tigers last Thursday night. The 1st and 4th quarters were the difference for the Jaguars on Monday.
Tekamah-Herman (4-14) battles Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (15-1) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Humphrey Friday night.
The Bulldogs blasted BRLD 62-31 at home Monday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.
You can bet Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family will be ready and raring to go in this one.
I bet the Bulldogs feel they got snubbed out of a top three seed in the tournament, and I would say took things out on the Wolverines Monday night.
Hopefully Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family took all their frustration out on BRLD otherwise if there's anything left the Bulldogs may want to take it out on Tekamah-Herman.
The Tigers have to play the type of defense they played against the Pioneers and Jaguars.
Tekamah-Herman has to really kick their offense into high gear if they hope to pull off the shocker and upset Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.
The Tigers have to handle the Bulldogs' pressure defense, and find good open looks and shots at the basket.
Tekamah-Herman has to play with no fear and absolutely nothing to lose.
The Tigers have to play confident and aggressive, and be serious in their demeanor leading up to and during the game.
Tekamah-Herman has to be loose and smile and laugh prior to the game and all that too, but realize that there is a job to get done Friday night.
Even if the Tigers don't upset the Bulldogs they should have a good chance to pick up a win in the second game of the tournament next Thursday.
Tekamah-Herman would no doubt love to play the role of spoiler and shock and upset Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, but if it doesn't happen there's always next time.
The Tigers just have to work on improving their offense, and must play great defense, which has been the staple of the team all season long.
Tekamah-Herman has to keep fighting and battling hard until the very end, no matter how the game transpires.
The Tigers have to keep their head up no matter what happens, and must simply continue to play the game at all times.
The game will start after the BRLD/Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Game set to tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
