Pender Boys beat Homer, lose to Omaha Nation; Girls defeat both
The Pender Boys Basketball Team edged Homer 49-48 at home Tuesday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before falling 75-70 at home to Omaha Nation Thursday night.
The Pendragons led the Knights 13-11 at the end of the 1st quarter, and won the 2nd quarter 15-11 to take a 28-22 lead into the locker room.
Homer outscored Pender 18-11 in the 3rd quarter to go up 40-39 at the end of three.
The Pendragons won the 4th quarter 10-8.
Sam Mailoux had 17 points and 9 rebounds while Jaxon Maise totaled 11 points. Nathan Breitbarth added 8 while Chris Rutar and Jaydon Jump posted 7 apiece.
The Chiefs got up 17-14 at the end of one. Both teams scored 19 points in the 2nd quarter, and the score was 36-33 at halftime in favor of Omaha Nation.
Pender won the 3rd quarter 22-19 to tie the game at 55 at the end of three.
The Chiefs won the 4th quarter 20-15.
Dylan Vogt had 21 points while Mailoux posted 19 points and 12 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Maise chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds while Eric Schopke had 9 points and 8 rebounds. Breitbarth added 7 points while Jump pulled down 8 rebounds.
Heck of a way for the Pendragons to battle on Tuesday, and especially on Thursday.
Pender (4-7) plays host to Clarkson/Leigh (3-7) on Saturday.
The Patriots lost 67-33 at home to Humphrey St. Francis Friday night.
The Pendragons have to come out and play a good game and perform well.
Pender needs the same kind of effort they got against Omaha Nation.
Thursday's loss was a gutsy performance by the Pendragons to say the least.
I think it shows the potential of this team and how good they can be.
I look for Pender to play well on Saturday and pick up a win.
The Pendragons have a tough road to hoe in their next three games after this one so Pender really needs this one in a big way.
The Pendragons have to come out and play hard and smart from the get go.
Mailoux has to be a man among boys in this one.
I don't know if the Patriots have anyone that can slow him down.
Pender really got after it offensively on Thursday, and if the Pendragons can keep scoring 70 points a game they can beat anyone.
Omaha Nation is a good team, and Pender was neck and neck with the Chiefs for four quarters.
It's that kind of inspired effort that can lead to bigger things down the line for the Pendragons I feel.
Pender needs a good solid and sound win on Saturday.
The Pendragons need to take this one by double digits to really feel good about themselves.
I thought the Omaha Nation game was one of the best games Pender has played all year so the Pendragons need to build upon it and play even better on Saturday.
This is one Pender really needs.
The Pendragons simply cannot afford to lose to Clarkson/Leigh, and I don't think they will, but you never know.
Anything can happen in the game of basketball, and Pender has to be cognizant of what the Patriots try and do and throw at them.
The Pender Girls won 53-45 at home over Homer Tuesday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before drilling Omaha Nation 74-34 at home Thursday night.
The Pendragons held a 13-7 lead on the Knights at the end of one. Pender won the 2nd quarter 13-12 to take a 26-19 lead into the locker room.
The Pendragons outscored Homer 16-10 in the 3rd quarter to go up 42-29 at the end of three.
The Knights won the 4th quarter 16-11.
Really nice win for Pender Thursday night, and a quality win on Tuesday as well.
The Pendragons (6-6) host Clarkson/Leigh (10-2) on Saturday.
The Patriots defeated Humphrey St. Francis 53-46 at home Friday night.
This game figures to be a huge challenge for Pender, I mean the Pendragons really have their work cut out for them in this one.
Clarkson/Leigh is a very confident team right now that is on a roll.
After all the Patriots have won four in a row.
Pender is a team that's playing pretty good ball right now too though as the Pendragons have won three straight.
It's a battle of two teams playing at a really high level right now.
This should be a great game and battle, and I wouldn't be surprised if the game is super close.
I think the game could be decided by single digits.
Clarkson/Leigh is a very good and dangerous team though.
Humphrey St. Francis is a great team, and to beat them is really saying something.
Pender is a quality program too though and I fully expect the Pendragons to come out and play a good game and put forth a great effort.
Pender has to be excited about the opportunity they have in this game.
An upset can definitely happen on any given day, and in this case on any given Saturday, so the Pendragons have to go out there and make it happen.
Pender has a lot of games coming up that look like they could and should be wins so even if the Pendragons don't upset the Patriots they should still taste victory quite a bit before the East Husker Conference Tournament begins.
A win or even a close game in this one could really give Pender a lot of momentum and springboard them, in my opinion.
This is the 3rd game of the week for the Pendragons after some time off so Pender should still be fresh and ready to go.
