Winnebago Boys knock off Council Bluffs St. Albert and Pender; Girls fall to Pendragons

The Winnebago Boys won 71-60 over Council Bluffs St. Albert, IA in the Omaha Metro on Saturday before rallying to beat Pender 62-61 on the road Thursday night.

The Indians led St. Albert 21-20 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 14-10 to take a 35-30 lead into the locker room.

Winnebago outscored St. Albert 17-10 in the 3rd quarter to lead 52-40 at the end of three.

St. Albert won the 4th quarter 20-19.

T.J. Frenchman had 32 points and 8 rebounds while Javon Price and Ed Payer added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Jeriah Greyowl chipped in 7 points.

The Pendragons went up 17-10 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 20-15 to take a 37-25 lead into the locker room.

The Indians won the 3rd quarter 18-14 to make it a 51-43 game at the end of three.

Winnebago outscored Pender 19-10 in the 4th quarter.

Breathtaking win for the Indians on Thursday night to say the least.

Winnebago (8-6) takes on Walthill (9-6) in the Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament at Osmond Monday night.

The Blujays won 59-53 at home over Allen Monday night.

Walthill beat Winnebago 68-62 in Winnebago early in the season.

The Blujays were playing good ball then, and I feel the Indians are going to get Walthill this time around.

Winnebago is 4-1 in their last five games while the Blujays are just 2-3 in the same stretch.

The winner most likely gets Osmond in the Quarterfinals on Thursday at Plainview, and I think the Indians are certainly capable of pushing the Tigers and giving them a good game, and could even pull the upset.

The Indians have to get past Walthill first though, and you know the Blujays will be up for Winnebago.

It should be a good, close game that comes down to the wire, much like Thursday night's game for the Indians.

Winnebago has to keep playing and realize they're never out of a game like they did Thursday night.

That was a big character win and building block for the Indians.

Winnebago showed everyone a lot by coming back and beating Pender.

I think it's safe to say the Indians played with the heart of a champion and never gave up.

Winnebago has to take that same attitude and drive into the Walthill game, and build upon what they have already done.

The Indians have to get fired up and must come out guns a blazin' from the start.

Winnebago has to jump on the Blujays, build a big lead, and never look back.

The Indians have to turn in the type of performance that gives them a strong chance to defeat Osmond on Thursday.

It's Winnebago's time, and the Indians have to go out there and shine.

Monday night's game is set to tip-off at 6:00 p.m.

The Winnebago Girls lost 68-52 at Pender Thursday night.

Tough setback for the Indians, but the Pendragons are playing really good basketball right now.

Winnebago (5-9) takes on Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (8-10) in the first round of the Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament at Wynot Saturday night.

The Bears won 59-36 at Wakefield-Allen Thursday night.

Winnebago beat Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 62-58 at home earlier this season, and I think the Indians can do it again.

The winner gets either Wynot or Winside in the Quarterfinals in Wynot Tuesday night.

The Indians played the Blue Devils fairly tough the first time they played them, but Winnebago has to get by the Bears first in order to see that matchup.

The Indians have struggled lately as they have lost three in a row while Laurel-Concord-Coleridge has won two in a row after dropping two straight and six out of their last seven.

It will be tough for Winnebago to beat the Bears a second time, but it can definitely happen.

The Indians just have to shake off the defeat to the Pendragons, and regroup the best they can.

Perhaps Winnebago can get back on track in this tournament and set the tone for the rest of the regular season.

The Indians close out the regular season with Wakefield-Allen and a couple of South Dakota Schools.

Winnebago has to come out and be smart and aggressive on Saturday for sure.

The Indians need to be clicking on offense and defense, and have their press working.

Winnebago has to attack the basket and look for good open jump shots and easy lay ups.

The Indians also have to get to the free throw line and convert shots from there.

Winnebago has to try and slow down the Bears' offense and pick things up offensively themselves.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge has put up 59 or more points in their last two games while Winnebago has scored under 50 and given up over 50 in 2 of 3 their last three games with the scoring totals and defensive numbers coming in both the same and different contests.

The Indians need to try and put up over 50 and hold the Bears to under 50 to have a good chance to win this one, in my opinion.

Saturday's game will tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
