Oakland-Craig Boys and Girls lose to North Bend Central; Girls rally to beat Class A Gretna

The Oakland-Craig Boys Basketball team lost 72-58 at North Bend Central last Thursday night.

The Tigers jumped out to a 21-10 lead on the Knights at the end of the first quarter before outscoring Oakland-Craig 26-15 in the 2nd quarter to take a 47-25 lead into the locker room.

The Knights outscored North Bend Central 21-10 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 57-46 game at the end of three.

The Tigers won the 4th quarter 15-12.

Colton Thomsen had 12 points while Wyatt Seagren totaled 11 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Tyson Harney notched 10 points and 7 rebounds while Garrison Dodge contributed 7 points.

Good job getting back into the game in the 3rd quarter by Oakland-Craig.

The Knights (9-8) take on Twin River (8-8) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at West Point-Beemer Saturday night.

The Titans won 74-40 at home over Clarkson/Leigh Tuesday night.

I like Oakland-Craig to win a close game in this one.

I feel the Knights have been just a little bit better than Twin River overall just based on some common opponents and scores against those opponents.

Oakland-Craig has to try and do everything they can not to start slow and sluggish.

It would be easy to do with over a week in between games, but the Knights have to be ready to go from the get go.

Should Oakland-Craig fall behind early, they can certainly come back and win, but it won't be easy.

This should be a pretty even and equal game from a matchup standpoint, and I look for things to be really close and competitive.

A win for the Knights gets them a rematch with North Bend Central Tuesday night, and I'm sure Oakland-Craig would love another shot at the Tigers.

The Knights have to be focused on beating the Titans first and foremost though.

I'm sure Oakland-Craig would have loved to have played Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Tuesday night, but it is what it is.

The Knights have to come out and play a good, strong game on Saturday.

Oakland-Craig has to want it more than the Titans.

The Knights have to play above the rim and take the fight to Twin River for four quarters.

Oakland-Craig has to force numerous turnovers with their pressure defense and get out and fly and run.

The Knights have to play a complete four quarter game, and give themselves something to build on heading into the next game of the tournament.

I think the game being in West Point as opposed to Genoa or say Humphrey is an advantage for Oakland-Craig.

The Knights are closer to home than the Titans are.

Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.

The Oakland-Craig Girls suffered their first defeat of the season last Thursday night, falling 52-49 at North Bend Central. The Knights bounced back on Saturday though, rallying from 17 down in the 4th quarter and 11 with 2:20 remaining in regulation to eventually win 71-69 in overtime over Class A Gretna at Sokol Arena.

Oakland-Craig went up 10-8 at the end of one on the Tigers before North Bend Central won the 2nd quarter 13-11 to tie the game at 21 at halftime.

The Tigers won the 3rd quarter 12-8 to go up 33-29 at the end of three.

The Knights won the 4th quarter 20-19.

Dacey Nelson missed a three pointer at the buzzer.

She had 26 points while Kennedy Benne totaled 17.

Oakland-Craig led the Dragons 14-13 after one, and outscored Gretna 16-9 in the 4th quarter to take a 30-22 lead into the locker room.

The Dragons outscored the Knights 26-9 in the 3rd quarter to go in front 48-39 at the end of three.

Oakland-Craig outscored Gretna 24-15 in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 63 and force overtime .

The Knights outlasted the Dragons 8-6 in the extra session.

Nelson poured in 33 points while Benne totaled 23.

It was the Dacey Nelson and Kennedy Benne show on Thursday and Saturday. I bet Oakland-Craig is thrilled to have them both back on the court together and healthy.

The Knights (15-1) are off until Monday when they will play either Twin River or Pender in the East Husker Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.

Oakland-Craig has had a lot of time to digest the Gretna win and let it sink in.

As thrilling as that win was, the Knights should be over it by now and be ready to go on Monday.

You have to be concerned with 8 days off in between games, but Oakland-Craig should be fine.

Pender has been red hot lately and would pose a challenge and test to the Knights I feel.

Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family is also on Oakland-Craig's side of the bracket, and that could be an intriguing semifinal game if it happens.

The Knights have to be ready to play lights out on Monday and during the rest of the tournament.

I think Oakland-Craig and West Point-Beemer could very well meet in the Conference Championship Game, but this girls tournament is so wide open that you just never know who is going to win it.

A lot of different things could happen, take place, and transpire in this tournament.

The Knights just have to make sure they take care of themselves.

Oakland-Craig can't worry about what the Cadets or Bulldogs or Clarkson/Leigh or Stanton or BRLD do, they have to worry about themselves.

The Knights have to perform their absolute best in this tournament, and be ready to dominate and rock and roll from the opening tip on Monday.

Oakland-Craig really won't have a ton of preparation time for their opponent on Monday, but that's okay...their opponent won't have a lot of time to game plan for them either.

The Knights have to come out and light it up from the field Monday night, and set the tone for the rest of the tournament.

Nelson and Benne have to keep doing their thing, and take this team to the promised land.

This is the time I look for Oakland-Craig to really play well and do a lot of damage.

The Knights have all the pieces in place for a big championship run, and are at full strength.

Oakland-Craig's game will be the second game of the night on Monday after the first game at 6:00 p.m.

The Knights will host on Monday and on Thursday in the Semifinals if they win on Monday.
