Winnebago Boys and Girls lose at Ponca

The Winnebago Boys Basketball Team lost 59-40 at Ponca Tuesday night.

Ponca went up 15-8 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 16-12 to take a 31-20 lead into the locker room.

Ponca outscored Winnebago 16-10 in the 3rd quarter to go up 47-30 at the end of three.

Ponca won the 4th quarter 12-10.

Ed Payer had 11 points and 8 rebounds while Javon Price totaled 10 points.

Ponca simply played a complete game in this one.

Winnebago (6-6) takes on Council Bluffs St. Albert (3-9) at Ralston Arena on Saturday.

I don't much about St. Albert other than their coach, Ben Holling, was fired this week.

That certainly makes for an interesting game as the Indians probably don't know what to expect from St. Albert.

All Winnebago can do though is go out there and play the game.

The Indians can't control what's going on and what has gone on with St. Albert....Winnebago has to be focused on themselves.

The Indians have to go out there and try and win a basketball game and climb back above .500.

It can definitely happen too the Indians just have to go out there and make it happen.

Payer and Price need to have big games for Winnebago, and the Indians have to get other kids going as well.

Winnebago has to be lights out on offense and defense, and play better than they did the other night against Ponca.

Ponca is a great team and must of played an exceptional game so I think it's simply a matter of Winnebago stepping things up and playing to the best of their ability and at their full potential in this one.

Winnebago has to be excited to play this one at Ralston Arena.

This is a big and marquee game, and the Indians have to get jacked, psyched, and motivated for this one.

This is all if they end up playing it of course.

If they do play though Winnebago has to go in there and show what they can do.

The Indians have to get out and run and gun, and try and press St. Albert to death if at all possible.

Winnebago has to be emotionally invested in this one from start to finish.

The Indians have to be ready to take St. Albert's best shot, and counter with blows of their own.

The Winnebago Girls lost 59-42 at Ponca Tuesday night.

Winnebago went up 10-8 at the end of one before Ponca outscored them 21-12 in the 2nd quarter to take a 29-22 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 14 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score at the end of three was 43-36 in favor of Ponca.

Ponca outscored Winnebago 16-6 in the 4th quarter.

Kae Earth had 14 points while Jayla Price totaled 12. Madeline Cleveland added 9.

Winnebago played well for a couple of quarters, but the second and fourth quarters were the difference in the game. Credit Winnebago for being in the game until the 4th quarter though.

The Indians (5-8) host BRLD (11-4) Tuesday night.

The Wolverines won 57-49 at Wakefield-Allen this past Tuesday night.

Winnebago could potentially pull off the upset as BRLD will have probably played both Stanton and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family on Saturday and Monday prior to taking on the Indians.

Winnebago has time to rest and practice, and should be ready to go you would think.

Not playing this weekend should allow the Indians to be fresh and ready to go I would think.

Winnebago should enjoy the weekend, watching the Boys play in the Omaha Metro or enjoy doing whatever else they do.

Regardless of what they do, the Indians have to feel good about what they did against Ponca and believe they can spring the upset Tuesday night.

Winnebago is wanting to become great at Girls Basketball and join the boys, and beating a team like the Wolverines would really help that become a reality.

BRLD is a very good and solid team and program, one you definitely want to model yourself after.

The Wolverines have been really good ever since Bancroft-Rosalie and Lyons-Decatur Northeast joined forces, and those two schools were good on their own even before coming together.

So to beat a team like BRLD would really be saying something and would be a significant win for Winnebago without a doubt.

The Indians will need to work very hard and play really well for it to happen, but it definitely can happen.

Winnebago just needs to get everyone involved offensively and have a good game plan.

The Indians really need to get things done on the defensive end, but play good on offense as well.

Winnebago needs to play up to their potential on both ends of the floor to come away with the win in this one I would say.

The Indians can definitely get it done too, but they have to take advantage of chances and opportunities they have throughout the game, and minimize the Wolverines' chances and opportunities.

Rebounding well and keeping BRLD off the glass and limiting them to one shot per possession as much as possible could be the key to a win in this one for Winnebago, in my opinion.
