Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys and Girls finish 3rd at Elmwood-Murdock Holiday Tournament
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys Basketball Team lost 41-27 to Fort Calhoun at the Elmwood-Murdock Holiday Tournament on Friday before winning 58-54 over Omaha Brownell Talbot on Saturday in the 3rd place game.
The Pioneers led 14-9 after one before the Raiders won the 2nd quarter 5-4 to make it an 18-14 game at halftime in favor of Fort Calhoun.
The Pioneers doubled up LVSS 6-3 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 24-17 at the end of three.
Fort Calhoun outscored the Raiders 17-10 in the 4th quarter.
Trystain Roseberry had 11 points and 8 rebounds while Connor Larson notched 8 points.
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder got out to a 15-3 lead on Omaha Brownell Talbot after one, and won the 2nd quarter 19-16 to take a 34-19 lead into the locker room.
Brownell Talbot outscored LVSS 15-7 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 41-34 game at the end of three.
Brownell Talbot won the 4th quarter 20-17 to make up the final score.
Larson and Jayden Korman led the way with 14 points apiece while Roseberry had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Nathan Wacker added 8 points.
I don't know if LVSS is happy with taking 3rd in this tournament, but credit them for winning the game they did.
The Raiders (5-4) host North Bend Central (7-1) Friday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
The Tigers won 59-50 over Omaha Concordia on Monday to win their own Holiday Tournament.
North Bend Central is playing great basketball and is as hot as any team right now in the area.
I felt Logan View/Scribner-Snyder could of played better in the Holiday Tournament, and now is the opportunity and chance to redeem themselves.
The Raiders have to come out pumped up, fired up, and inspired.
LVSS has to play better than they did last weekend, and should be able to with more practice and gym time under their belt.
Holiday Tournaments are always tough because of the five-day moratorium that precedes them.
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder probably beats Brownell Talbot by more and at least makes things closer with Fort Calhoun if it's a normal regular season game.
The Raiders really need to clamp down defensively against the Tigers.
North Bend Central has some kids who can really shoot and score, and LVSS definitely has their work cut out defensively.
The big two being Tanner Wietfeld and John Emanuel, who combine to average 30 points a game.
The Raiders also have to find ways to manufacture offense from new sources.
Roseberry, Larson, Korman, and Wacker have to continue to score the way they did against Brownell Talbot.
Roseberry is a stud, and has really led this team.
Other players just have to become consistent scorers like he has been all season long.
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder has to play North Bend Central tough, and do everything in their power to win.
This is kind of a heated rivalry, and I think the Raiders are capable of giving the Tigers a game and making things close at the very least.
The game will be aired on the Bull after the Girls game, which is scheduled to get underway at 6:00 p.m.
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Girls lost 45-19 to Omaha Brownell Talbot on Friday at the Elmwood-Murdock Holiday Tournament before winning 46-45 over Fort Calhoun in the 3rd place game on Saturday.
Brownell Talbot quadrupled up LVSS 12-3 in the 1st quarter before outscoring them 12-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 24-10 lead into the locker room.
Brownell Talbot won the 3rd quarter 15-6 to extend their lead to 39-16 at the end of three.
Brownell Talbot doubled up Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 6-3 in the 4th quarter.
Shaylin Daugherty had 16 rebounds while Valerie Uehling notched 7.
LVSS led the Pioneers 10-7 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 11-8 to take a 21-15 lead into the locker room.
The Raiders won the 3rd quarter 14-13 to extend the lead to 35-28 at the end of three.
Fort Calhoun outscored Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 17-11 in the 4th quarter.
Josie Kahlandt had a team-high 17 points while Daugherty registered 8 points and 17 rebounds. Ashley Peters notched 7 points while Reagan Klein recorded 9 rebounds.
Slow start to the Tournament for LVSS, but the Raiders did a great job bouncing back and winning on Saturday.
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (3-6) hosts North Bend Central (6-4) Friday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
The Tigers fell 54-49 to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the Championship Game of their own Holiday Tournament on Monday.
Both teams have done some nice things so far this season.
I feel North Bend Central is probably the hotter team of the two right now, but think the Raiders can hold their own if they're on top of their game.
I feel offense is going to be critical in this one.
Both teams play great defense and get after you on that end of the floor, but which team will do a better job of scoring the ball?
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder will need to hit their layups and get to and convert at the free throw line and take smart shots given the nature of the Tigers' defense.
Creating steals and earning extra possessions will be critical for the Raiders as well I feel.
LVSS has to step up their game and play well.
Daugherty really has to get after it down low going up against the likes of Lauren Emanuel.
She needs the type of defensive performance she got in both games of the Holiday Tournament, and has to be a force offensively.
The Raiders also need girls to step up and hit open jumpers.
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder has to be confident shooting the ball, and must rebound well offensively and defensively.
The Raiders have to create extra possessions for themselves on offense and limit the Tigers to one shot per possession.
If LVSS can turn in one of their better performances of the season they should be able to keep this one close at least if not win.
The Raiders have to be confident in themselves and play up to their potential.
In other words, Logan View/Scribner-Snyder has to get up for North Bend Central.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on the Bull.
