Clarkson/Leigh Boys lose to Tekamah-Herman; Girls win

The Clarkson/Leigh Boys Basketball Team fell 54-48 at Tekamah-Herman on Saturday.

The Tigers led 15-9 at the end of one before the Patriots won the 2nd quarter 10-8 to make it a 23-19 game at halftime in favor of Tekamah-Herman.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored Tekamah-Herman 22-12 in the 3rd quarter to pull in front 41-35 at the end of three.

The Tigers outscored the Patriots 19-7 in the 4th quarter.

Jarred Novotny totaled 14 points while Mitchel Beeson had 13. Carter Hanel added 10 points and 21 rebounds, good enough for a double-double, while Tommy McEvoy chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds.

I honestly thought Clarkson/Leigh would win this one. It doesn't look like Daniel Beller played though.

The Patriots (3-6) host Humphrey St. Francis (9-3) Friday night.

The Flyers won 66-51 at home over Burwell on Saturday.

This figures to be a really tough game for Clarkson/Leigh, especially if the Patriots are without Beller again.

Clarkson/Leigh has to rally around one another and find a way to pull off the upset.

The Patriots have to forget about what took place against the Tigers and regroup.

Clarkson/Leigh has to do better on both ends of the floor than they did at Tekamah-Herman on Saturday.

The loss snapped the Tigers' 64-game losing streak.

Tekamah-Herman is a C-2 school while the Patriots are D-1, and the bigger school normally wins, but Humphrey St. Francis is D-2 so Clarkson/Leigh ought to come out and play better.

That and it's a home game for the Patriots.

Clarkson/Leigh has to rally around one another and put together a good and strong performance.

The Patriots have Pender on the road Saturday so two tough and challenging games for Clarkson/Leigh.

I think the Patriots can at least earn a split this weekend.

The ideal thing would be to sweep both games though and that's what Clarkson/Leigh has to shoot for.

This is a key and tough stretch of games coming up for the Patriots before the East Husker Conference Tournament.

Clarkson/Leigh also has Twin River, Lutheran High Northeast, and Wisner-Pilger prior to the Conference Tournament.

This is the time where the Patriots need to step up and be on top of their game and play their best basketball.

Clarkson/Leigh has to regroup after the loss on Saturday, and get back up on that horse and get excited and motivated for Friday night and Saturday.

The Clarkson/Leigh Girls narrowly escaped defeat on Saturday, winning 25-22 at Tekamah-Herman.

The Patriots held a 6-5 lead on the Tigers at the end of one before Tekamah-Herman won the 2nd quarter 5-3 to go up 10-9 at halftime.

The Tigers won the 3rd quarter 7-6 to go up 17-15 at the end of three.

Clarkson/Leigh doubled up Tekamah-Herman 10-5 in the 4th quarter.

Hannah Kasik led the way with 11 points and 15 rebounds, good enough for a double-double.

Close call for the Patriots, but what matters is Clarkson/Leigh found a way to win.

The Patriots (9-2) host Humphrey St. Francis (12-1) Friday night.

The Flyers won 58-45 at home over Burwell on Saturday.

St. Francis is a great team and the real deal, and Clarkson/Leigh is going to need to play an amazing game to pick up the win.

It can definitely happen too, the Patriots just have to believe.

I don't know if Clarkson/Leigh will be at full strength yet as a few girls were out for Saturday's game so that could hurt the Patriots.

Still though Clarkson/Leigh had a lot of their main players for Saturday's game, and it's just a matter of girls stepping up and being key contributors.

The Patriots have to rise up and rally around one another and play a great game.

The Flyers are the kind of team Clarkson/Leigh will see in the East Husker Conference Tournament and postseason so this game figures to help prepare the Patriots for those games if anything.

Clarkson/Leigh has to come out and play hard and play their hearts and minds out regardless of if they're shorthanded or not.

If the Patriots are shorthanded they need to step up and play even better than they would if they were at full strength.

Clarkson/Leigh is at Pender on Saturday, and that figures to also be a tough game, especially if the Patriots are still shorthanded.

Clarkson/Leigh is at Twin River next Friday and then the schedule is light after that prior to the East Husker Conference Tournament.

The Patriots have to find a way to win over these next five games.

I think Clarkson/Leigh could live with going 3-2, but 4-1 or even 5-0 would be spectacular.

I think the Patriots would be disappointed if they went 2-3 or worse in their next five games.

We'll see what happens Friday night and Saturday. This team is different when they're not at full strength like any team is and would be.

Clarkson/Leigh just has to make the best of things with whoever plays on Friday and Saturday, and do everything they can to win.
