North Bend Central Boys and Girls beat Oakland-Craig and Madison
The North Bend Central Boys Basketball Team continues to roll, defeating Oakland-Craig 72-58 at home Thursday night, and Madison 85-39 on the road Tuesday night.
The Tigers jumped out to a 21-10 lead on the Knights at the end of the first quarter before outscoring Oakland-Craig 26-15 in the 2nd quarter to take a 47-25 lead into the locker room.
The Knights outscored North Bend Central 21-10 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 57-46 game at the end of three.
The Tigers won the 4th quarter 15-12.
John Emanuel led the way with 17 points while Tanner Wietfeld totaled 16. Austin Endorf added 15 while Jaxon Wietfeld and Chase Ruzicka chipped in 10 and 7, respectively.
The Tigers led 15-10 over the Dragons at the end of one before outscoring Madison 30-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 45-16 lead into the locker room.
North Bend Central won the 3rd quarter 26-18 to go up 71-34 at the end of three.
The Tigers outscored the Dragons 14-5 in the 4th quarter.
Dominant win for North Bend Central on Tuesday, and a big win on Thursday as well.
The Tigers (14-1) host Wisner-Pilger (12-4) Thursday night.
The Gators won 61-39 at home over Clarkson/Leigh Tuesday night.
Wisner-Pilger is a tough team in their own right, and this should be a good game.
Of course the East Husker Conference Tournament is already set with North Bend Central getting the #1 seed and a bye.
It is possible that the Tigers could face Oakland-Craig and Wisner-Pilger again in the tournament.
Beating teams more than once, especially when the first matchups were just recent, is tough, but all North Bend Central needs to worry about right now is winning Thursday night.
Wisner-Pilger is a good team and has a coach you want to model your team after.
With that said, the Tigers are a very good team and have been very good in recent years.
North Bend Central has built their program into something special as well, and has big time dreams, hopes, and aspirations this year without a doubt.
The Tigers need to come out and play lights out for four quarters and take it to the Gators.
North Bend Central has to be dominant like they were against the Dragons the entire time.
I thought the Tigers could of finished the Oakland-Craig game better than they did, but it appears North Bend Central fixed any lingering issues after that game against Madison.
This is an important game, and a win would only give the Tigers that much more confidence and momentum heading into the East Husker Conference Tournament.
I think North Bend Central has a good chance to win the EHC Crown this year, but the road figures to be difficult regardless of who the Tigers play in what round.
Either Oakland-Craig or Twin River figure to provide a tough test Tuesday night, and then either Howells-Dodge or Wisner-Pilger, assuming they both win their first round games, figure to be a tough semifinal test for North Bend Central. You can't count out Pender or Clarkson/Leigh by any means though.
If the Tigers play BRLD in the Championship they will have their work cut out for them big time.
North Bend Central just has to take things one game and one step at a time though, and come out and play well against Wisner-Pilger Thursday night.
The Tigers can worry about the Conference Tournament after Thursday's game.
The North Bend Central Girls sprung the big upset Thursday night, handing Oakland-Craig their lone defeat of the season so far, upsetting the Knights 52-49 at home. The Tigers then turned around and dominated Madison 70-27 on the road Tuesday night.
Oakland-Craig went up 10-8 at the end of one before North Bend Central won the 2nd quarter 13-11 to tie the game at 21 at halftime.
The Tigers won the 3rd quarter 12-8 to go up 33-29 at the end of three.
The Knights won the 4th quarter 20-19.
Megan Ortmeier notched 23 points while Sydney Emanuel posted 8.
Great win for North Bend Central Thursday night!!! And a dominant performance on Tuesday as well.
The Tigers (11-6) host Wisner-Pilger (5-12) Thursday night.
The Gators lost 40-30 at home to Clarkson/Leigh Tuesday night.
Wisner-Pilger has played well at times this year, and has been blown out sometimes too.
The Gators have lost three in a row and six out of their last seven, but North Bend Central still needs to be ready to go.
I think the Tigers have a chance to make some noise in the East Husker Conference Tournament, but North Bend Central needs to keep rolling Thursday night.
The Tigers have won three in a row and four out of their last five, and it appears North Bend Central really gained a lot of confidence after knocking off Columbus Scotus last Tuesday.
It's as if a burden was lifted from the Tigers, and a monkey lifted off their back.
North Bend Central finally overcame that mental hurdle of beating the Shamrocks, and now are rockin' and rollin.
The Tigers have to keep it up Thursday night against the Gators and on Friday against Howells-Dodge in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at home.
The Jaguars will be a handful for North Bend Central with West Point-Beemer awaiting the winner.
The Tigers won't be scared of or intimated by anyone, and certainly won't back down from anyone either.
North Bend Central knows they can play with anyone having already knocked off the top seeded Knights.
I talked about Howells-Dodge being a darkhorse in the East Husker Conference Tournament, but I think that better fits the Tigers now.
The way North Bend Central is playing right now makes them a very dangerous team, in my opinion.
It wouldn't shock me to see the Tigers pull off another upset or two in this tournament.
After all, North Bend Central has absolutely nothing to lose.
If the Tigers play the way they did against Oakland-Craig they can play with anyone in this conference, in my opinion.
North Bend Central has to focus on playing well against the Gators on Thursday first though before worrying about anything when it comes to the Conference Tournament.
