Oakland-Craig Boys lose to GACC in Sub Districts
The Oakland-Craig Boys saw their season come to an end Tuesday night as the Knights lost 62-36 to Guardian Angels Central Catholic in the C2-3 Sub District at Pender.
GACC led Oakland-Craig 14-4 after one. The Bluejays outscored the Knights 19-10 in the second quarter to go up 33-14 at halftime.
GACC won the third quarter 17-14 to lead 50-28 at the end of three.
The Bluejays notched 12 fourth quarter points compared to 8 for Oakland-Craig.
Carter Thiele had a team-high 15 points and 7 rebounds while Cody Mace notched 8 points. Cole Mitchell contributed 8 rebounds.
The Knights simply didn't have enough left in the tank to hang, compete with, and beat GACC.
Oakland-Craig ends the year at 9-14.
The Knights were a better team than their record indicates, in my opinion.
Oakland-Craig beat some good teams this year, including Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, Lyons-Decatur Northeast, Bancroft-Rosalie, and Madison.
The Knights were very competitive in some of their losses, and were not so competitive in others.
When Oakland-Craig's offense was on, it was on.
The Knights lose Mace, Bob Gatewood, Cody Mallette, Mitchell, Thiele, and Josh Mulder to graduation.
Each of these six seniors meant a lot to this program, and will not soon be forgotten.
Next year's team will look a little different with Evan Reinert, Garrett Seagren, Zach Arens, Isaiah Larson, and Cole Bures all back.
I think next year's team has a chance to be successful, but it's going to take a lot of hard work in the offseason.
It will be interesting to see what kind of team Oakland-Craig has in 2016-2017. I'm not sure what the Knights have for an incoming freshman class, but perhaps there are some freshmen who can step up and help out next year.
One way or another, I think Oakland-Craig has a chance to win more games than they did this year.
