Oakland-Craig Boys top West Point-Beemer
The Oakland-Craig Boys won over West Point-Beemer at home Friday night, winning 72-61.
The Knights doubled up the Cadets 24-12 in the first quarter. Oakland-Craig outscored West Point-Beemer 20-14 in the second quarter to take a 44-26 lead into the locker room.
The Cadets won the third quarter 12-11 to make it a 55-38 game at the end of three.
West Point-Beemer put up 23 fourth quarter points compared to 17 for the Knights.
Carter Thiele led all scorers with 30 points. Evan Reinert added 15 while Cole Mitchell and Garrett Seagren notched 12 and 11, respectively.
Oakland-Craig played very well offensively against the Cadets. The Knights' offense was too much for the Cadets to overcome.
Oakland-Craig (9-12) squares off with Archbishop Bergan (7-13) on the road Friday night.
Bergan lost 55-41 at Nebraska City Lourdes on Saturday.
It has no doubt been a disappointing season for Fremont Bergan, a season they are not used to.
Their coach resigning right before the season has really affected their season without a doubt.
With that said, Oakland-Craig needs to take advantage of the fact that Fremont Bergan is down.
Oakland-Craig has to play the same way offensively that they did against West Point-Beemer.
Oakland-Craig's defense could be better, but as long as Oakland-Craig is scoring a lot offensively, they should be in good shape.
Oakland-Craig needs a big win to gain momentum for sub districts next week.
It has already been determined that the Knights will play Guardian Angels Central Catholic in Sub District C2-3 at Pender next week.
This game with Archbishop Bergan doesn't have a ton of meaning, but it's still an important game.
It's always better to win your final regular season game than lose it heading into postseason play.
You always want to be playing your best basketball at the end of the season, and that certainly applies to Oakland-Craig.
You can bet Oakland-Craig will get Fremont Bergan's best shot with it being their final game at home.
Archbishop Bergan will no doubt like to gain some momentum for sub districts as well as you can bet they will come ready to play.
