Oakland-Craig Girls fall to West Point-Beemer in regular season finale
The Oakland-Craig Girls lost their regular season finale Friday night, falling 57-49 at home to West Point-Beemer.
Both teams scored 8 first quarter points. The Cadets won the second quarter 16-15 to lead 24-23 at halftime.
West Point-Beemer outscored the Knights 15-10 in the third quarter to go up 39-33 at the end of three.
The Cadets won the fourth quarter 18-16.
Dacey Nelson had a team-high 18 points while Brynn Charling totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds to earn a double-double. Bailey Charling added 10 points.
Oakland-Craig certainly held their own against West Point-Beemer, but beating the Cadets again was asking a lot.
The Knights (18-5) battle Wisner-Pilger (13-9) in the C2-3 Sub District at Pender Tuesday night.
The Gators beat Twin River 49-23 at home on Saturday to end the regular season.
The two teams met on December 17th in Wisner with the Knights winning 52-47.
That game was certainly close, and I look for this game to be close as well.
Both teams have played and beaten some very good teams this season.
Oakland-Craig could perhaps earn a wildcard to state should they lose, but the Knights don't want to rely on that.
Oakland-Craig has to treat this game as if their season is done if they lose, and it could be.
The Knights have to play the way they did in the East Husker Conference Tournament.
Oakland-Craig needs Nelson, both Charling's, Olivia Bures, Emma Reinert, Melanie Snader, and others to produce.
The Knights must have a serious, business-like attitude, and be ready to go from the get go.
This game could go either way so if Oakland-Craig gets down, they can't panic.
This game could definitely be a game of momentum swings, and the Knights must do what they can to keep the momentum on their side and limit Wisner-Pilger.
Oakland-Craig has to watch out for Bailey Batenhorst, Sydney Bradfield, Lexi Knust, Tessa Ruskamp, Alexis Heller, and Sara Smyth.
Any one of those players is capable of taking over and being a difference maker in the game.
Tuesday's game is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
