Emerson-Hubbard Girls return to state

For the 4th year in a row, the Emerson-Hubbard Girls are at the State Tournament as the Pirates defeated North Central 52-39 in the D1-3 District Final at Battle Creek Friday night.

I'm sure Emerson-Hubbard is glad they made state by winning their way to the tournament rather than relying on the wildcard.

The Pirates (25-1) take on Cambridge (19-5) in the first round of state at Lincoln North Star Thursday morning.

Emerson-Hubbard is the 2 seed while the Trojans are the 7.

Cambridge knocked off Axtell 42-35 in the D1-5 District Final at Lexington Friday night.

The Trojans are a strong team and have made a good postseason run, but I don't think the Pirates will have a ton of trouble with Cambridge.

Emerson-Hubbard has been really good all year long, and I look for the Pirates to win fairly easily on Thursday.

I think the Trojans could give Emerson-Hubbard somewhat of a close game, but I think it could very well be a game where the Pirates are in command the entire way.

With that said, Emerson-Hubbard can't underestimate Cambridge.

You never want to take a team lightly, especially at state, and I don't think the Pirates will take the Trojans lightly.

I look for Emerson-Hubbard to be on top of their game and in championship form on Thursday.

I really think the Pirates have a good shot to at least get to the state championship game. Either Fullerton or BDS will stand in their way of making that a reality, assuming Emerson-Hubbard wins their first round game, but there's no doubt the Pirates can beat either of those teams.

Thursday's game is set to tip-off at 10:45 a.m.
