Pender Girls lose to Stanton to end regular season
The Pender Girls lost 47-36 to Stanton last Thursday night in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation game at North Bend to end the regular season.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 13-4 lead on the Pendragons at the end of one. Stanton outscored Pender 18-5 in the second quarter to take a 31-9 lead into the locker room.
The Pendragons won the third quarter 12-5 to make it a 36-21 game in favor of the Mustangs at the end of three.
Pender put up 15 fourth quarter points compared to 11 for Stanton.
Hallie Ballinger had 11 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Amber English added 7 points while Cecilee Jacobsen notched 8 rebounds.
A two-game losing streak is not how the Pendragons wanted to end the regular season I'm sure, but the good news is Pender has had ample time to prepare for sub districts.
The Pendragons (12-11) battle Randolph (13-6) in the D1-5 Sub District at Ponca Tuesday night.
The Cardinals lost 69-34 at Crofton Friday night to end the regular season.
Randolph is on a three-game losing streak heading into this game, and hasn't really played the caliber of schedule that Pender has played.
Despite the Cardinals having a much better record, the Pendragons are the higher seed.
Pender has challenged themselves this season by playing a tough schedule.
The Pendragons have definitely had a much tougher road than Randolph.
With that said, this is the postseason, and anything can happen.
I'm sure many people, including me, are thinking an Emerson-Hubbard/Pender Sub District Final, but I'm sure the Cardinals would love to spoil the party.
The Pendragons have to be focused and must have a business-like attitude Tuesday night.
Pender can't get caught looking ahead to the Pirates. Of course that can only happen if Emerson-Hubbard wins their first Sub District game.
The Pendragons have to be on top of their game Tuesday night. Pender has had over a week and-a-half to prepare for the postseason so the Pendragons have to gear up and make the run they are capable of.
Tuesday's game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:45 p.m.
