Stanton Boys top Clarkson/Leigh to end regular season

The Stanton Boys capped off the regular season last Thursday night with a 61-24 win at Clarkson/Leigh.

The Mustangs led 17-4 at the end of one. Stanton outscored the Patriots 29-5 in the second quarter to lead 46-9 at halftime.

Clarkson/Leigh won the third quarter 11-3 to make it a 49-20 game at the end of three.

The Mustangs tripled up the Patriots 12-4 in the fourth quarter.

Josh Krentz had a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Kyle Sperl added 14 points while Brook Klinetobe and Myles Nickolite notched 12 and 8, respectively.

This was a great win for Stanton. The Mustangs played really well on both ends of the floor.

Stanton (18-6) squares off with Lutheran High Northeast (13-6) Tuesday night in the C2-5 Sub District at Norfolk Catholic.

The Eagles defeated Howells-Dodge 73-34 at home Friday night.

These two teams did not meet in the regular season.

This is going to be a tough game for the Mustangs. Lutheran High Northeast is a quality ball club.

This sub district is so loaded that it's anyone's to win, in my opinion.

Stanton definitely can come out of this sub district and advance to a district final, but so could any of the other four teams playing in this sub district.

I think it all comes down to who plays the best, and who is on top of their game.

Krentz, Sperl, Klinetobe, Nickolite, Hunter Stallbaum, and Mitchael Sieh all need to have nice games for the Mustangs.

If Stanton plays the way they did against the Patriots, I think the Mustangs win. Stanton has been off a few times this year too though so if that happens Tuesday night, the Mustangs could very well lose.

The Stanton Boys have to take a page out of the girls' sub district, and duplicate what their girls did.

The sub district is there for the Mustangs' taking. All Stanton has to do is go out there and make it happen.

Tuesday's game is set to tip-off at 8:00 p.m.
