Emerson-Hubbard Boys 2-2 in last four games; Girls 3-0 in last three

The Emerson-Hubbard Boys are 2-2 in their last two games, downing Pender 68-43 at home on Tuesday, January 26th before beating Allen at home on Thursday, January 28th 55-31. The Pirates lost 86-55 to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge last Saturday in the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament before falling 63-35 at home to Randolph Tuesday night.

The Pirates and Pendragons were tied at 13 at the end of one. Emerson-Hubbard doubled up Pender 26-13 in the second quarter to lead 39-26 at halftime.

The Pendragons won the third quarter 11-10 to make it a 49-37 game at the end of three.

The Pirates outscored Pender 19-6 in the fourth quarter.

Emerson-Hubbard led the Eagles 16-5 after one. The Pirates outscored Allen 17-7 in the second quarter to take a 33-12 lead into the locker room.

The Eagles won the third quarter 11-9 to make it a 42-23 game at the end of three.

Emerson-Hubbard notched 13 fourth quarter points and held Allen to 8.

The Bears jumped out to a 24-13 lead on the Pirates at the end of one. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge outscored Emerson-Hubbard 27-10 in the second quarter to go up 51-23 at halftime.

Both teams scored 17 third quarter points, and the score after three was 68-40 in favor of the Bears.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge won the fourth quarter 18-15.

The Cardinals tripled up the Pirates 15-5 in the first quarter. Randolph outscored Emerson-Hubbard 20-15 in the second quarter to go up 35-20 at halftime.

The Cardinals won the third quarter 11-8 to lead 46-28 at the end of three.

Randolph put up 17 fourth quarter points while limiting the Pirates to 7.

Emerson-Hubbard played well against Pender and Allen, but struggled against two quality teams in Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Randolph.

The Pirates (8-11) take on Walthill (15-3) on the road Friday night.

The Blujays lost 83-72 to Winnebago in the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament on Saturday.

Walthill is a really good team who has gotten better as the year has gone along.

The Blujays had won 10 in a row prior to the loss to the Indians.

I look at this game as being similar to the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Randolph games in terms of the level of competition.

Emerson-Hubbard is going to have to play a lot better than they did against the Bears and Cardinals if they want to compete, let alone beat Walthill.

The Pirates could easily lose by 20 or 30 or they could make things interesting, in my opinion.

It depends how well both teams play.

I think Emerson-Hubbard is capable of hanging with the Blujays. They've already hung with a few of the tougher teams on their schedule.

The Pirates have lost to all teams above .500 with the exception of Wisner-Pilger.

One thing I will say is Emerson-Hubbard is challenging themselves by playing a tough schedule. That should help the Pirates in the long run.

Emerson-Hubbard has Lyons-Decatur Northeast at home next Friday night to end the regular season.

The Emerson-Hubbard Girls downed Bloomfield 61-36 in the semifinals of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament on Saturday before beating Wynot 54-51 in the championship game Monday night. The Pirates knocked off Randolph 53-32 at home Tuesday night.

Emerson-Hubbard led the Bees 18-10 at the end of one. The Pirates won the second quarter 11-7 to go up 29-17 at halftime.

Emerson-Hubbard outscored Bloomfield 23-4 in the fourth quarter to lead 52-21 at the end of three.

The Bees put up 15 fourth quarter points and limited the Pirates to 9.

The Blue Devils led Emerson-Hubbard 15-14 after one. Wynot outscored the Pirates 11-6 in the second quarter to take a 26-20 lead into the locker room.

Emerson-Hubbard won the third quarter 15-13 to make it a 39-35 game at the end of three.

The Pirates rallied for the win in the fourth quarter, putting up 19 points compared to 12 for the Blue Devils.

Emerson-Hubbard jumped on the Cardinals and led 18-4 at the end of one. Both teams scored 12 second quarter points, and the halftime score was 30-16 in favor of the Pirates.

Emerson-Hubbard outscored Randolph 14-5 in the third quarter to lead 44-21 after three.

The Cardinals won the fourth quarter 11-9.

The Pirates have continued to play great basketball. Emerson-Hubbard showed the heart of a champion coming back on Wynot the way they did.

The Pirates (21-1) take on Walthill (4-12) on the road Friday night.

The Blujays lost 68-40 to Wynot on Friday, January 29th in the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament.

Walthill has been off for quite a while, and has had ample time to prepare for Emerson-Hubbard.

That should help the Blujays, especially when you add in the fact the Pirates played four games in six days.

At the same time, I'm sure Emerson-Hubbard will be ready to go. Playing that many games in a short amount of time is how state is going to be, so if anything, last week and this week's games have helped the Pirates prepare for what lies ahead.

Emerson-Hubbard hasn't had a lot of time to prepare for Walthill while the Blujays have had forever to come up with a game plan, but pure talent should win out in this game.

The Pirates are by far the more superior team, and it should show Friday night.

I could see Walthill playing inspired with the game being their last game of the regular season, and it being at home, but I still think Emerson-Hubbard will find a way to roll to a big win.

The Pirates have won 20 in a row while the Blujays have lost 6 straight and 7 out of their last 8, so this shouldn't be much of a contest.

Emerson-Hubbard has their sights set on bigger and better things than Friday night's game, but the Pirates still need to take care of business heading into sub districts next week.

Emerson-Hubbard definitely wants to finish the regular season strong.
