Clarkson/Leigh Boys lose final regular season game to Stanton
The Clarkson/Leigh Boys had a tough end to the regular season, falling 61-24 at home to Stanton last Thursday night.
The Mustangs led 17-4 at the end of one. Stanton outscored the Patriots 29-5 in the second quarter to lead 46-9 at halftime.
Clarkson/Leigh won the third quarter 11-3 to make it a 49-20 game at the end of three.
The Mustangs tripled up the Patriots 12-4 in the fourth quarter.
This was a very disappointing loss for Clarkson/Leigh. I'm surprised the Patriots got beat the way they did.
Clarkson/Leigh (4-19) battles Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (14-7) in the C2-5 Sub District at Norfolk Catholic Monday night.
The Bulldogs knocked off Plainview 62-55 on the road Friday night.
The two teams met twice in the regular season with Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family winning both match ups.
The Bulldogs defeated the Patriots 70-44 in the season opener at Clarkson/Leigh, and then 72-58 in the East Husker Conference Tournament at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.
The Bulldogs got the best of the Patriots the first two times, but perhaps the third time will be the charm for Clarkson/Leigh.
The Patriots have to play a lot better than they did against Stanton though. That type of performance is simply unacceptable. Clarkson/Leigh is a better team than what they showed against the Mustangs.
With that said, the Patriots are going to have to play a four quarter game. Clarkson/Leigh can't collapse in the fourth quarter like they are known for doing.
The season is on the line for the Patriots, and their play has to reflect that. Clarkson/Leigh has to go above and beyond how they normally play to get the job done and win Monday night.
I think this team is capable of winning, but this sub district is loaded. If anything, the Patriots really have their work cut out for them.
Monday night's game is set to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. The winner gets Battle Creek on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.
