Howells-Dodge Girls defeat Bancroft-Rosalie and North Bend Central to end regular season

The Howells-Dodge Girls defeated Bancroft-Rosalie 59-38 on the road Tuesday night before downing North Bend Central 42-30 at home Thursday night.

The Jaguars led the Panthers 20-11 after one. Howells-Dodge won the second quarter 17-12 to take a 37-23 lead into the locker room.

The Jaguars outscored Bancroft-Rosalie 12-5 in the third quarter to lead 49-28 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 10 fourth quarter points.

Sam Brester had 24 points and 9 rebounds. Chelsea Bayer added 11 points while Kalli Brester and Tessa Brester recorded 7 apiece.

The Tigers led Howells-Dodge 11-6 at the end of one. The Jaguars won the second quarter 7-6 to make it a 17-13 game at halftime.

Howells-Dodge outscored North Bend Central 8-5 in the third quarter to make it a 22-21 game at the end of three.

The Jaguars put up 21 fourth quarter points and held the Tigers to 8.

Sam Brester registered 15 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Bayer totaled 9 points while Macey Kulhanek had 7.

Howells-Dodge played outstanding basketball last week. I don't think there's any doubt the Jaguars are in postseason form.

Howells-Dodge (18-5) battles Osceola (12-12) in the D1-4 Sub District at David City Aquinas Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs are on a three-game losing streak, falling 39-36 at home to Shelby/Rising City to end the regular season Friday night.

Osceola has played some tough teams close, but has fallen to pretty much all the good teams on their schedule.

The Bulldogs only have two wins against teams who are above .500 so I don't think the Jaguars have a whole lot to worry about with Osceola.

With that said, anything can happen in the postseason, so Howells-Dodge has to be ready to play.

The Jaguars are pretty much already in the state tournament as Howells-Dodge is currently sitting in 2nd place in the wildcard point standings.

The Jaguars want to win their way into state though. Howells-Dodge doesn't want to have to rely on the wildcard.

It's likely the Jaguars will play Fullerton in the sub district final, and I think Howells-Dodge will beat the Warriors if the two teams play.

The Jaguars challenge themselves with a tough schedule while Fullerton has played a weaker schedule.

The Warriors are still a good team without a doubt, but I feel Howells-Dodge is better.

First things first though, the Jaguars have to take care of Osceola.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
