West Point-Beemer Girls beat Oakland-Craig to round out regular season
The West Point-Beemer Girls rounded out the regular season Friday night with a 57-49 win at Oakland-Craig.
Both teams scored 8 first quarter points. The Cadets won the second quarter 16-15 to lead 24-23 at halftime.
West Point-Beemer outscored the Knights 15-10 in the third quarter to go up 39-33 at the end of three.
The Cadets won the fourth quarter 18-16.
Amanda Hansen led all scorers with 22 points while McKenzie Bruce and Taylor Weddle totaled 15 each.
Head Coach Craig Theis says it was nice to beat the Knights this time around after losing to them in the East Husker Conference Tournament. "We came back. We really wanted to get one back there that we thought we had a really good opportunity to win on our home floor to go win a conference championship, which was our goal for this group of seniors to go win a title. So they took the right mindset, and hey let's go get this one, we'll be regular season East Husker Champs, and move on to districts."
West Point-Beemer (20-4) faces Arlington (7-15) in one of two Sub District Basketball games Tuesday night on 107.9 the Bull.
The Cadets downed the Eagles 69-24 in the season opener, but Theis says Arlington is better now than they were then. "Yeah absolutely it's like sophomore, sophomore, sophomore, freshman, and they're really going to work. Tonight when watching the game they really want to run a 1-2-2 and they trap you across half court. And they did a really nice job of making Logan View/Scribner-Snyder really uncomfortable for most of the game."
The Eagles knocked off the Raiders 53-33 in the C1-6 play-in game Monday night.
Arlington has certainly improved some since the season opening loss to West Point-Beemer, but the Cadets shouldn't have much trouble beating the Eagles.
West Point-Beemer has to put their foot on the throttle for four quarters and cannot let up.
The Cadets have to take it to Arlington for four quarters, and establish a brand of postseason basketball that is going to carry them to the state tournament.
This isn't the easiest or hardest sub district out there, it's sort of in-between.
Each round, each level of the postseason gets tougher, and West Point-Beemer has to start off on the right foot with a big win over the Eagles Tuesday night.
It's a must win for the Cadets, and their play has to reflect that. West Point-Beemer can't afford to take Arlington lightly.
Tip-off between the Cadets and Arlington is set for 6:30 p.m. on the Bull.
