Tekamah-Herman Girls lose at North Bend Central to end regular season

The Tekamah-Herman Girls lost at North Bend Central twice in a row to end the regular season, including a 34-31 decision Tuesday night.

Head Coach Scott Guzinski says tough circumstances surrounding the first match up hurt his team.
"Well those last two games against North Bend, not the last one, but the previous game. It was a non-winner game in the conference tournament and we were coming off two days with a blizzard and no practice so we really struggled to score. We only scored 9 points in the first half. We were better in the second half, but we just dug ourselves such a hole that we just couldn't come back."

Tekamah-Herman (13-9) takes on Fort Calhoun (12-9) in C1-6 Sub District action at Oakland-Craig Tuesday night.

The Pioneers beat Raymond Central 60-51 on the road Friday night to end the regular season.

The Tigers won the regular season meeting between the two teams 46-39, but Guzinski says it wasn't easy. "Yeah the first time we played we were actually behind in the middle of the third quarter by 11 points. And then we came back and had the really good fourth quarter. Jessica Fleischman scored 17 points in the second half of that game for us. So it was a good win for us. It was a strong finish, and it was right after Christmas there when we had three games in a week, and it was important to kind of get into a stretch run there and play well."

As big and important as the regular season win was, Tuesday's game is the one that matters.

I think Tekamah-Herman could overcome a double digit deficit again, but it's probably best if the Tigers stay within single digits.

Tekamah-Herman really needs to keep Tuesday's game close or hold a lead to be in a good position to win the game.

You can bet Fort Calhoun will be on top of their game, so the Tigers need to be on top of their game as well.

I look for Tuesday night's game to be close and perhaps be decided by 5 points or less.

The team that hits more free throws, takes better care of the ball, and forces more turnovers, could very well be the team that wins.

Tip-off between Tekamah-Herman and Fort Calhoun is set for 8:00 p.m. in Oakland. The game can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
