Emerson-Hubbard Boys fall to Lyons-Decatur Northeast to end regular season
The Emerson-Hubbard Boys lost 55-40 at home to Lyons-Decatur Northeast in Friday night's regular season finale.
The Cougars led the Pirates 16-12 at the end of one. Lyons-Decatur Northeast won the second quarter 15-11 to lead 31-23 at halftime.
The Cougars outscored Emerson-Hubbard 11-6 in the third quarter to go up 42-29 at the end of three.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast put up 13 fourth quarter points compared to 11 for the Pirates.
This was a tough game for Emerson-Hubbard. The Pirates competed well for the most part, but got beat in every quarter.
Emerson-Hubbard (8-13) takes on Walthill (17-3) in the D1-5 Sub District at Ponca Tuesday night.
The Blujays won 81-37 at Nebraska Lutheran Friday night to end the regular season.
The two teams met last Friday in Emerson with Walthill winning 88-56.
I don't know what the Pirates can do to hang around in and win this game, but if Emerson-Hubbard can play at a high level for four quarters like they did against the Cougars, and win some of those quarters, they might be able to hang in there.
The Blujays are a quality team, and have only lost to the state's best.
It's definitely going to be tough for the Pirates to win, but anything is possible.
Emerson-Hubbard has to believe in themselves and play with confidence.
It all starts on the defensive end of the floor for the Pirates. Emerson-Hubbard can't give up 80+ and expect to win.
The Pirates' offense also has to be better than it was against Lyons-Decatur Northeast.
Emerson-Hubbard has to find the right combination of offense and defense, and play at an effective, high level Tuesday night.
The Pirates have to play their hardest, and leave it all out on the floor.
If Emerson-Hubbard does everything they can, win or lose, that could be something for the seniors to look back upon years from now, and something to build on for next season.
Tuesday night's game is set to tip-off at 7:45 p.m.
