Stanton Boys lose to Lutheran High Northeast in Sub Districts

The Stanton Boys saw their season come to an end Tuesday night as the Mustangs lost 64-47 to Lutheran High Northeast in the C2-5 Sub District at Norfolk Catholic.

Stanton led 15-10 after one. The Eagles outscored the Mustangs 22-12 in the second quarter to go up 32-27 at halftime.

Lutheran High Northeast won the third quarter 12-8 to lead 44-35 at the end of three.

The Eagles notched 20 fourth quarter points compared to 12 for Stanton.

Kyle Sperl led all scorers with 22 points. Josh Krentz recorded 8 points and 7 rebounds.

This had to be a crushing defeat for the Mustangs. I'm sure Stanton would have liked to have made a postseason run.

The Mustangs end the season at 18-7.

It was a season filled with many successes and triumphs for Stanton.

The Mustangs' biggest wins came against West Holt, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (twice), Battle Creek, and Lyons-Decatur Northeast (twice).

Stanton played a somewhat difficult schedule, and only lost to quality teams.

The Mustangs are no doubt disappointed with how their season finished, but Stanton had a fine season nonetheless.

The Mustangs say goodbye to Brook Klinetobe, Sperl, Krentz, Christian Stallbaum, and Mitchael Sieh.

These five seniors were very valuable members to this year's team and past teams.

Key returners for Stanton include Hunter Stallbaum, Henry Bohac, Myles Nickolite, and Trey Erbst.

I think Stanton has a good chance to be competitive again next season, but it's not going to be easy.

The Mustangs must work their tails off in the offseason if they want to be good again next year.

Replacing the departed seniors won't be easy, but it's simply time for new players to step in and rise to the occasion.

Stanton is very capable of having another good season in 2016-2017 if everything comes together for them like it can.
