Wisner-Pilger Girls lose to Oakland-Craig in Sub Districts
The Wisner-Pilger Girls saw their season come to an end last Tuesday night as the Gators lost 42-24 to Oakland-Craig in the C2-3 Sub District at Pender.
The Knights led 12-0 at the end of one. Oakland-Craig won the second quarter 10-7 to take a 22-7 lead into the locker room.
The Knights outscored the Gators 15-11 in the third quarter to go up 37-18 at the end of three.
Wisner-Pilger put up 6 fourth quarter points compared to 5 for Oakland-Craig.
This was a tough way for the Gators to end the season. I'm sure Wisner-Pilger wishes and feels they could have been more competitive.
The Gators conclude the season with a 13-10 record.
Wisner-Pilger did a lot of nice things this season, and picked up big wins over Stanton, Tekamah-Herman, North Bend Central, Lyons-Decatur Northeast, and Twin River.
The Gators lose quite a bit of talent, including Lexi Knust, Tessa Ruskamp, Sara Smyth, and Sydney Bradfield.
Wisner-Pilger returns Alexis Heller, Bailey Batenhorst, Maci Batenhorst, and others.
I'm really excited to see what kind of seasons Heller and Bailey Batenhorst have next season. I feel both players have a chance to have special seasons, and lead this team.
Reflecting back on this year though, the Gators did some really good things.
I think Wisner-Pilger probably played about as well as they could have throughout the year.
If anything, this team overachieved.
It's hard saying how good the Gators will be next year, but I think Wisner-Pilger has a chance to have a good season in 2016-2017.
Player development in the offseason is critical, but as long as players grow and develop the way they should, the Gators should have a respectable season.
It will be interesting to see what Wisner-Pilger can do next season. I think it's safe to say the Gators have some momentum to build off of heading into next season, and probably still have a sour taste in their mouths given how the season ended.
