Clarkson/Leigh Boys lose East Husker Conference Consolation Game; Girls win
The Clarkson/Leigh Boys lost 72-58 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Friday night in an East Husker Conference Consolation game.
The Patriots led 15-12 after one. The Bulldogs won the second quarter 17-13 to take a 29-28 lead into the locker room.
Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family outscored Clarkson/Leigh 21-16 to go up 50-44 at the end of three.
The Bulldogs notched 22 fourth quarter points compared to 14 for the Patriots.
Ben McMullin posted a team-high 19 points while Blake Paprocki notched 11. Kobe Paprocki added 10 points and 10 rebounds while Colby Becker registered 8 points.
Clarkson/Leigh gave Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family a game for a while. It was just the second half that proved to be difference for the Bulldogs.
The Patriots (4-17) host Stanton (17-6) Thursday night to round out the regular season.
The Mustangs took third place in the East Husker Conference Tournament, earning a 58-47 win over Lyons-Decatur Northeast.
Stanton is a very good team, but I think Clarkson/Leigh is capable of hanging with and beating the Mustangs.
It's the last time these seniors will ever play on their home floor. You can never underestimate the power of a team when they're playing their last home game.
I fully expect the Patriots to play inspired and out of their minds.
The biggest question mark remains can Clarkson/Leigh play well enough in the fourth quarter to win?
The fourth quarter has been a thorn in the Patriots' backside all year long, and sluggish fourth quarters have cost Clarkson/Leigh all season long.
The Patriots have been there through the first three quarters most games, it's just the fourth quarter that's preventing them from having a better season.
Perhaps Clarkson/Leigh needs to conserve some energy and save themselves some for the fourth quarter. Perhaps that will work.
Whatever they do, the Patriots need to figure out a way to play better in the fourth quarter. Doing so could make all the difference for Clarkson/Leigh.
We will see what the Patriots can do Thursday night. I think Clarkson/Leigh has a chance to be successful, but again it all comes down to playing well in the fourth quarter, in my opinion.
The Clarkson/Leigh Girls picked up a 48-44 win over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation game Thursday night.
The Patriots led 8-6 after one. Clarkson/Leigh won the second quarter 14-13 to lead 22-19 at halftime.
The Raiders outscored the Patriots 13-10 in the third quarter to tie the game at 32 at the end of three.
Clarkson/Leigh amassed 16 points compared to 12 for Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.
This was an important win for the Patriots. Clarkson/Leigh needed to pick up a win in 2016.
The Patriots (4-16) host Stanton (15-7) Thursday night in the regular season finale.
The Mustangs beat Pender 47-36 in a tournament consolation game at North Bend Central Thursday night.
Stanton is certainly a team to be reckoned with, and has quite a bit of talent.
Clarkson/Leigh is going to have to play a really good game to not only compete with the Mustangs, but beat them as well.
The Patriots have to do what they can to contain Hiliary Huss, Jessie Brandl, Bree Burtwhistle, MacKenzie Brandl, and others.
Clarkson/Leigh needs to play even better offensively than they did against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.
If the Patriots can get to 50 I think they may have a chance.
Stanton has been offensively challenged at times this season, and has struggled to point points on the board in certain games.
It will be interesting to see if Clarkson/Leigh can play well against the Mustangs. It's the Patriots' final home game so certainly anything can happen.
Clarkson/Leigh has to play with confidence and a belief that they can get the job done.
The 2016 portion of the schedule hasn't treated the Patriots the best, but perhaps the win over the Raiders will spark this team to another win.
I don't think Clarkson/Leigh is past a moral victory either. If the Patriots can at least keep things close with Stanton, it could serve as a momentum booster heading into sub districts.
