Winnebago Girls lose to Emerson-Hubbard in Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament
The Winnebago Girls lost 66-49 to Emerson-Hubbard in the Lewis and Clark Quarterfinals Thursday night.
The Indians led the Pirates 14-13 after one. Emerson-Hubbard outscored Winnebago 25-12 in the second quarter to take a 38-26 lead into the locker room.
The Pirates won the third quarter 15-13 to go up 53-39 at the end of three.
Emerson-Hubbard put up 13 fourth quarter points compared to 10 for the Indians.
I'm sure Winnebago wishes the second quarter would have gone better for them. The second period was pretty much the difference in the game.
The Indians (6-16) travel to Wakefield (2-18) Tuesday night.
The Trojans lost 62-29 to Emerson-Hubbard last Saturday, also in the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament.
These two teams will most likely meet in sub districts next week, so as important as this game is for gaining momentum for the postseason, the sub district game will be the one that counts.
Winnebago needs to play well Tuesday night to set a tone for next week.
The Indians just assume win both games by blowout. And it certainly can happen.
I think this Winnebago team is a better team than their record indicates.
With that said, the Indians are in a loaded sub district so they need all the momentum they can get heading into postseason play.
Winnebago has to jump on Wakefield early and never look back.
The Indians have to contest shots, box out, take care of the ball, and make free throws.
It will be important for Winnebago to do the little things well if they hope to come away with two wins over the Trojans.
Certainly anything can happen in these next two games, but I would be awfully surprised if the Indians didn't sweep both.
