Wisner-Pilger Boys 0-3 in last three games; Girls 2-1 in last three

The Wisner-Pilger Boys are 0-3 in their last three games, falling 46-44 in overtime at home to West Point-Beemer last Friday night in an East Husker Conference Consolation game, 47-42 to Lyons-Decatur Northeast on the road Tuesday night, and 72-56 at home to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Thursday night.

The Cadets led the Gators 10-7 after one. Wisner-Pilger won the second quarter 13-10 to make it a 20-20 game at halftime.

West Point-Beemer outscored the Gators 10-7 in the third quarter to lead 30-27 at the end of three.

Wisner-Pilger put up 15 fourth quarter points compared to 12 for the Cadets, including a Tate Toelle three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

West Point-Beemer doubled up the Gators 4-2 in the extra session thanks to an Adam Niewohner buzzer beating two-pointer.

Wisner-Pilger led the Cougars 17-10 after one. Lyons-Decatur Northeast outscored the Gators 17-6 in the second quarter to lead 27-23 at halftime.

Wisner-Pilger won the third quarter 9-6 to make it a 33-32 game at the end of three.

The Cougars notched 14 fourth quarter points compared to 10 for the Gators.

Hunter Waterman finished with a team-high 10 points while Logan Godbersen and Jayden Raabe totaled 9 and 8, respectively.

The Bears led Wisner-Pilger 20-13 after the first quarter. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge won the second quarter 23-20 to lead 43-33 at halftime.

The Bears outscored the Gators 17-16 in the third quarter to go up 60-49 at the end of three.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge notched 12 fourth quarter points compared to 7 for Wisner-Pilger.

The Gators have picked the wrong time of the year to struggle.

Wisner-Pilger (7-13) looks to snap their six-game losing streak on Saturday when the Gators host Twin River (16-6).

The Titans lost 60-52 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Thursday night.

Twin River has been pretty good this year, and that's not good news for Wisner-Pilger, who has lost eight out of their last nine.

The Gators must figure something out, and figure it out quickly.

Wisner-Pilger is really struggling, and needs to find some answers.

Inconsistency has reared its ugly head on the Gators, and Wisner-Pilger needs to come up with a winning formula quickly.

When the defense has been strong, the offense has struggled, and when the offense has been good, the defense has struggled.

The Gators have been unable to put things together on both ends of the floor as of late.

Wisner-Pilger is definitely capable of getting things turned around though. This Gator team did beat Pender by 40.

Wisner-Pilger has Madison next week to end the regular season so between that game and Saturday's contest, the Gators really need to focus in on what they are doing.

Everyone needs to play their best game on Saturday for Wisner-Pilger to have a shot at pulling the upset.

I think the Gators are capable of knocking off Twin River, but Wisner-Pilger has to play a lot better than they have been lately.

It's going to take a great effort from the Gators for Wisner-Pilger to win.

The Wisner-Pilger Girls beat Lyons-Decatur Northeast 61-49 last Thursday night in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation game before losing 50-48 to the Cougars on the road Tuesday night. The Gators downed Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 72-45 at home Thursday night.

In the first match up, the Gators doubled up the Cougars 18-9 in the first quarter. Wisner-Pilger outscored Lyons-Decatur Northeast 16-10 in the second quarter to lead 34-19 at halftime.

Both teams scored 13 second quarter points, and the score after three was 47-32 in favor of the Gators.

The Cougars won the fourth quarter 17-14.

Bailey Batenhorst notched a game-high 24 points. Alexis Heller added 13 while Lexi Knust scored 8.

In the second game, Lyons-Decatur Northeast led 13-9 after one. Wisner-Pilger outscored the Cougars 16-11 in the second quarter to lead 25-24 at halftime.

The Gators won the third quarter 16-15 to go up 41-39 at the end of three.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast put up 11 fourth quarter points and held Wisner-Pilger to 9.

Heller finished with a team-high 16 points while Knust and Batenhorst notched 12 each.

The Gators led the Bears 17-10 after one. Wisner-Pilger outscored Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 22-5 in the second quarter to take a 39-15 lead into the locker room.

The Bears won the third quarter 15-13 to make it a 52-30 game at the end of three.

The Gators put up 20 fourth quarter points compared to 15 for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.

Batenhorst led all scorers with 23 points. Heller totaled 12 while Knust added 11. Sydney Bradfield recorded 8.

Wisner-Pilger has continued to play good basketball. Beating the Cougars for a second time in as many games was asking a lot.

The Gators (12-9) take on Twin River (11-10) at home on Saturday.

The Titans lost 52-40 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Thursday night.

Twin River is a decent team, but I think Wisner-Pilger is the superior team in this match up.

The Gators have played some good basketball and knocked off some good teams this season.

I look for Batenhorst, Heller, Knust, and Bradfield to have good games for Wisner-Pilger.

The Gators could really use this win to gain momentum for sub districts.

Wisner-Pilger is in a stacked sub district with the likes of Guardian Angels Central Catholic and Oakland-Craig so the Gators have to gain whatever edge they can heading into their game with the Knights on Tuesday.

It would also be a big deal for Wisner-Pilger to win their final home game.

This is the last time these seniors will ever play on their home floor so winning would be a pretty big deal.

It has been a very respectable season for the Gators, and a win would be a good way to cap off the regular season.

You can bet the Titans will come ready to play and really want to win their final regular season game and gain momentum for sub districts so Wisner-Pilger has to be ready to bring it from start to finish.

The Gators need to be on top of their game if they hope to win.
