Lyons-Decatur Northeast Boys upset by Omaha Christian Academy in Sub Districts
The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Boys saw their final season come to an end Tuesday night as the Cougars were upset 46-41 by Omaha Christian Academy in the D1-3 Sub District at Fremont Middle School.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast led 11-7 at the end of one. The Eagles won the second quarter 13-10 to make it a 21-20 game at halftime.
Omaha Christian Academy outscored the Cougars 13-9 in the third quarter to go up 33-30 at the end of three.
The Eagles put up 13 fourth quarter points compared to 11 for Lyons-Decatur Northeast.
Alec Anderson had a team-high 15 points. Marcus Hegy added 9.
I was surprised the Cougars lost. I thought Lyons-Decatur Northeast would make it farther than they did in their final season.
The Cougars end the campaign with a 15-8 record.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast had a memorable year, picking up big wins over Madison, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, Omaha Nation, and Cedar Bluffs.
The Cougars did a lot of special things this year, and should always be remembered for what they did as a whole this season.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast loses a talented group of seniors, including Anderson, Hegy, Montana Riecken, Jon Christiansen, Joey O'Connor, and Jacob Whitaker.
These six seniors meant a lot to the Cougar program over the years, and did some wonderful things this season.
Anderson, in particular had a very memorable senior season.
The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars are now no more in boys basketball. Lyons-Decatur Northeast will be joining forces with Bancroft-Rosalie next year in what will be the Bancroft-Rosalie-Lyons-Decatur Wolverines.
Cole Christoffersen, Hunter Ferguson, and Tyler Hardeman should really help out the new co-op team. There's a good nucleus of players from Bancroft-Rosalie that should really help make the new team good too.
It will be interesting to see how good the new co-op team is next year. I think it has a chance to be good, but players have to come and work together, and get along.
It's an adjustment for everyone, but it's just something that has to be done.
