Wisner-Pilger Girls down Twin River to end regular season

The Wisner-Pilger Girls won their final game of the regular season, downing Twin River 49-23 at home on Saturday.

The Titans led the Gators 10-9 at the end of one. Wisner-Pilger outscored Twin River 13-5 in the second quarter to take a 23-14 lead into the locker room.

The Gators won the third quarter 9-6 to go up 32-20 at the end of three.

Wisner-Pilger notched 18 fourth quarter points compared to 2 for the Titans.

This was a great way for the Gators to end the regular season. A big win was just what Wisner-Pilger needed.

The Gators (13-9) square off with Oakland-Craig (18-5) in the C2-3 Sub District at Pender Tuesday night.

The Knights lost 57-49 at home to West Point-Beemer Friday night to end the regular season.

These two teams met in Wisner on December 17th with Oakland-Craig winning 52-47.

Tuesday's match up should be another close battle, and I look for both teams to get after one another and make things exciting.

Both teams have had nice seasons, and if the Gators don't win, their season is finished as they don't have a chance at a wildcard.

Wisner-Pilger has won two in a row and three out of their last four while the Knights had won five in a row and six out of their last seven prior to the loss to the Cadets.

The Gators have to play their hardest and give it their all. Wisner-Pilger has to be able to say they couldn't of played any better after the game is all said and done.

The Gators have a tough draw, but Wisner-Pilger is a tough team, and I think they will show that Tuesday night.

The Knights are good and could earn a wildcard to state should they lose in the postseason, but I'm sure the Gators will have plenty of motivation with it being a win or go home situation.

The fact Wisner-Pilger knows their season is done if they lose and Oakland-Craig knows they have a shot at a wildcard makes things interesting, in my opinion.

One almost has to wonder if the Gators will play harder and want it more.

I don't think that will be the case as I'm sure the Knights will be ready to go as if it is do or die for them, but it's interesting to think about and discuss nonetheless.

Tuesday's game is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
