North Bend Central Boys rout Fort Calhoun to end regular season

The North Bend Central Boys were impressive at home Friday night, winning 59-30 over Fort Calhoun.

The Tigers led 10-8 after one. North Bend Central won the second quarter 15-12 to lead 25-20 at halftime.

The Tigers outscored the Pioneers 13-4 in the third quarter to go up 38-24 at the end of three.

North Bend Central notched 21 fourth quarter points and limited Fort Calhoun to 6 to make up the final score.

Jake Wieftfeld notched a game-high 17 points while Tanner Wietfeld scored 14. Jake Cleveringa added 8.

The Tigers played a great game Friday night. It was exactly the kind of statement North Bend Central needed to make prior to the postseason.

The Tigers (21-1) square off with David City Aquinas (10-11) in the C1-4 Sub District at Columbus High Tuesday night.

The Monarchs lost 63-44 at Columbus Scotus Thursday night.

The two teams met on December 29th at the David City Holiday Tournament with North Bend Central winning 57-49.

It was a good, quality win at the time for the Tigers, but now I'm sure North Bend Central wants to beat David City Aquinas by more.

I think the Tigers have a good shot to win by double figures Tuesday night, but North Bend Central has to play well.

All the pressure will be on the Tigers, who can't be looking ahead to a sub district final with Columbus Scotus.

Time and time again though North Bend Central has come through when it has mattered the most.

I don't look for that to change at all Tuesday night. I look for the Tigers to step up to the plate and deliver.

I look for North Bend Central to win pretty big Tuesday night. I think the Tigers have proven that they are a legit contender for state.

Many still may doubt North Bend Central, which is why I think the Tigers will be out to prove everyone wrong.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
