Oakland-Craig Boys edge Lyons-Decatur Northeast, fall to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family
The Oakland-Craig Boys won 58-57 at Lyons-Decatur Northeast last Thursday night before falling 74-53 to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the opening round of the East Husker Conference Tournament on Saturday in Stanton.
The Knights led 16-13 after one. The Cougars outscored Oakland-Craig 14-10 in the second quarter to take a 27-26 lead into the locker room.
The Knights won the third quarter 17-14 to go up 43-41 at the end of three.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast notched 16 fourth quarter points compared to 15 for Oakland-Craig.
Garrett Seagren notched a game-high 24 points and 7 rebounds for the Knights. Evan Reinert totaled 11 points and 8 rebounds while Carter Thiele and Cole Mitchell had 10 and 9 points, respectively.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-9 lead on the Knights after one. Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family won the second quarter 17-16 to go up 32-25 at halftime.
Oakland-Craig outscored the Bulldogs 18-17 in the third quarter to make it a 49-43 game after three.
Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family put up 25 fourth quarter points compared to 10 for the Knights.
Thiele led all scorers with 25 points while Seagren totaled 19.
Oakland-Craig played a great game against the Cougars. The Knights were right there with the Bulldogs, it was just the fourth quarter that proved to be costly.
Oakland-Craig (7-12) squares off with Madison (6-11) Friday night in an East Husker Conference Consolation game at Wisner-Pilger.
The Dragons lost 66-53 to Lyons-Decatur Northeast in the first round of the tournament on Saturday.
These two teams met on December 19th with Madison winning 65-62.
Despite the fact the Dragons won the first time around, I feel like the Knights are playing better basketball right now.
I look for Oakland-Craig to win by 10 or so Friday night.
I feel like the Knights are playing good enough basketball right now to knock off Madison.
It would be a big deal for Oakland-Craig to win given the two games they have to end the season.
I think the Knights have a chance to win out and give themselves some good momentum heading into sub districts.
This Oakland-Craig team has worked hard this year and has continued to battle and fight despite getting beat quite a bit of the time.
One thing you can say about this Knights' squad is there hasn't been any quit in them. Oakland-Craig has to continued to play hard regardless of what has happened to them.
The Knights have to remain hungry and optimistic. Oakland-Craig has to have that drive and determination to be successful.
We will see how the Knights fare against the Dragons.
The game is set to start after the West Point-Beemer/Wisner-Pilger game, which is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.
