Bancroft-Rosalie Boys and Girls win East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation games
The Bancroft-Rosalie Boys defeated Howells-Dodge 63-51 in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation game at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Friday night.
The Jaguars led the Panthers 12-11 after one. Bancroft-Rosalie won the second quarter 20-15 to take a 31-27 lead into the locker room.
The Panthers outscored Howells-Dodge 13-6 in the third quarter to lead 44-33 at the end of three.
Bancroft-Rosalie put up 19 fourth quarter points compared to 18 for the Jaguars.
Kenyan Lovejoy had a team-high 15 points for the Panthers. Aaron Ras added 14 points and 14 rebounds. Michael Snyder registered 10 points while Trent Gatewood and Dayne Wortman notched 8 points apiece.
This was a nice win for the Panthers. I viewed this game as a toss up, but Bancroft-Rosalie came through and got the job done.
The Panthers (10-9) host Howells-Dodge (8-12) Tuesday night.
It's going to be tough for Bancroft-Rosalie to knock off the Jaguars two times in a row, in my opinion, but it can definitely be done.
The Panthers must have the same mentality they had going into the first game, and need to play hard and well this time around too.
Bancroft-Rosalie has to play with heart, passion, and desire.
The season is winding down for the Panthers so they need to play at a high level.
I think Bancroft-Rosalie has a chance to win out until sub districts if they can continue to play at a high level.
The Panthers had a lot of kids score against Howells-Dodge the first time around, and Bancroft-Rosalie needs multiple players to get into the act again if they want to come out on top for the second time.
I definitely think the Panthers are capable of beating the Jaguars for the second time, but it's going to take an even better effort than the first time these two met, in my opinion.
It's always difficult to beat a team back-to-back, but anything can happen.
I think Bancroft-Rosalie has a real chance to make some headway if they can win Tuesday night.
A win would give the Panthers quite a bit of momentum heading into the Omaha Nation game on Friday.
Bancroft-Rosalie closes out the season with Pender next Friday night.
The Bancroft-Rosalie Girls defeated Twin River 51-39 in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation game Thursday night.
The Titans led the Panthers 14-12 after one. Twin River won the second quarter 12-11 to go up 26-23 at halftime.
Bancroft-Rosalie outscored the Titans 17-8 in the third quarter to go up 40-34 at the end of three.
The Panthers put up 11 fourth quarter points compared to 5 for Twin River.
Vicki Gatzmeyer led the way with 24 points. Paige Peters added 9.
This was a really good win for Bancroft-Rosalie. The Panthers stepped up and came through in the second half when it mattered most.
Bancroft-Rosalie (7-11) hosts Howells-Dodge (16-5) Tuesday night.
The Jaguars lost 45-31 to Oakland-Craig in the East Husker Conference Tournament Championship game Saturday night at Central Community College in Columbus.
The Knights certainly got after things defensively, and that's what the Panthers are going to have to do if they hope to upset Howells-Dodge.
Bancroft-Rosalie needs a complete game effort. The Panthers have to play like they did in the second half against the Titans for four quarters against the Jaguars.
Slowing down Sam Brester is paramount to any success Bancroft-Rosalie might have.
The Panthers have to play with a ton of pride, heart, and passion Tuesday night. Bancroft-Rosalie has to give 100% effort at all times, and play smart and disciplined.
The one thing the Panthers can't do is beat themselves. Missed free throws, lay ups, and turnovers always hurt a team, and Bancroft-Rosalie has to do what they can to make the free ones and bunnies, and minimize mistakes.
There's not a lot of room for error when taking on a team like Howells-Dodge so the Panthers are probably going to have to play a near perfect, if not perfect, game to knock off the Jaguars.
Bancroft-Rosalie is more than capable of making it happen though. The Panthers just have to believe, and go out there and execute at a high level.
Anything can happen, and Bancroft-Rosalie has to play optimistic basketball Tuesday night.
