Winnebago Boys top Bancroft-Rosalie and Homer

The Winnebago Boys beat Bancroft-Rosalie 80-50 last Tuesday night before downing Homer 75-32 at home on Saturday in the first round of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament.

Winnebago jumped on Bancroft-Rosalie and led 21-5 after one. The Indians outscored the Panthers 26-8 in the second quarter to go up 47-13 at halftime.

Winnebago won the third quarter 25-12 to lead 72-25 at the end of three.

Bancroft-Rosalie notched 25 fourth quarter points and held the Indians to 8.

David Wingett totaled 28 points to lead all scorers. Drake Gorrin notched 12 while MaNaPe Cleveland and Aspen Lapointe recorded 11 apiece. D'Von Lapointe recorded 9.

Winnebago led the Knights 19-6 after one. The Indians outscored Homer 24-5 in the second quarter to take a 43-11 lead into the locker room.

Winnebago won the third quarter 21-11 to go up 64-22 at the end of three.

The Indians notched 11 fourth quarter points compared to 10 for the Knights.

Wingett led all scorers with 35 points. Aspen Lapointe added 14 while Gorrin and D'Von Lapointe registered 8 and 7, respectively.

Winnebago has continued their amazing run this season. The Indians continue to play great basketball, there's nothing much else to say.

Winnebago (20-0) squares off with Creighton (13-5) Friday night in Bloomfield in the quarterfinals of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament.

The Bulldogs downed Bloomfield 63-34 in the first round of the tournament on Saturday.

Creighton has played good basketball lately as they have won five in a row.

The Bulldogs are certainly a team that can upset anyone they play.

Creighton has only lost to good teams this season, but this is probably the Bulldogs' toughest test of the season so far.

I don't think Creighton has seen a team like the Indians. There aren't many teams as good as Winnebago in Northeast Nebraska.

The Indians have to be focused, determined, and ready to play a great game. Winnebago has to play with the same focus and intensity they've played with all year.

The Indians have to respect the Bulldogs, and cannot take Creighton lightly.

Winnebago has to understand that they will get the Bulldogs' best shot so the Indians have to be on top of their game.

Every game in this tournament gets tougher with every win so Winnebago has to bring it even more than they did against Homer.

Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. in Bloomfield.
