GACC Boys 1-1 in last two games
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys went 1-1 last week, losing 38-37 at Pierce Thursday night before downing Wayne 62-55 at home on Saturday.
GACC led Pierce 9-5 after one. GACC won the second quarter 10-6 to lead 19-11 at halftime.
Pierce outscored GACC 17-8 in the third quarter to go up 28-27 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 10 fourth quarter points.
Kobe Slaughter had a team-high 13 points while Tanner Ortmeier notched 9.
The Bluejays led the Blue Devils 20-18 at the end of one. Wayne won the second quarter 17-10 to take a 35-30 lead into the locker room.
GACC outscored the Blue Devils 16-5 in the third quarter to go up 46-40 at the end of three.
The Bluejays notched 16 fourth quarter points compared to 15 for Wayne.
GACC played really good basketball against Pierce, and did what they needed to do to knock off the Blue Devils.
The Bluejays (15-7) host Winnebago (25-0) Friday night to end the regular season.
The Indians defeated Gothenburg 80-78 at the Heartland Hoops Classic in Grand Island on Saturday.
Winnebago led that game big before the Swedes came back and made a game of it.
The Indians are certainly beatable as Gothenburg nearly proved on Saturday.
Winnebago is a great team, don't get me wrong, but I don't think the Indians are as strong as they were a year ago.
With that said, it's going to take an outstanding effort from GACC to win.
Winnebago is still the real deal as they are undefeated, and the Indians have played with such great passion, pride, and resiliency all season long.
The Bluejays must match Winnebago's intensity level and outwork, out play, and outhustle the Indians.
Winnebago is no doubt the more talented team so GACC simply has to play better and execute at a higher level than the Indians.
It's the last game of the regular season, and the last time these seniors are going to play on their home floor, so certainly anything can happen.
The Bluejays have to play optimistic and loose basketball. GACC has to believe they can beat Winnebago, and take the Indians to the brink.
It will be interesting to see if the Bluejays can upset Winnebago.
