Howells-Dodge Boys 1-2 in last three games
The Howells-Dodge Boys are 1-2 in their last two games, losing 46-39 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder last Tuesday night before winning 56-52 over Wisner-Pilger in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament on Saturday at Twin River, and losing 71-46 to Twin River in the tournament quarterfinals in Genoa Monday night.
The Raiders led the Jaguars 13-4 after one. Howells-Dodge won the second quarter 15-13 to make it a 26-19 game at halftime.
The Jaguars outscored Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 12-9 to cut the deficit to 4 at 35-31 at the end of three.
Howells-Dodge put up 11 fourth quarter points and held the Raiders to 8.
Nolan Lund had a team-high 11 points while Tyler Polacek notched 9. Luke Renter added 7 rebounds.
The Jaguars held a one-point lead on Wisner-Pilger at the end of one at 14-13. The Gators outscored Howells-Dodge 20-15 in the second quarter to take a 33-29 lead into the locker room.
The Jaguars doubled up Wisner-Pilger 10-5 in the third quarter to go up 39-38 at the end of three.
Howells-Dodge won the fourth quarter 17-14.
Polacek finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Connor Blum totaled 17 points while Renter notched 8 points and 10 rebounds.
Head Coach Cole Fischer says he was happy with the win. "This was a great win for us. We finished the game from the free throw line and defended in the second half very well. I’m very proud of the boys and their effort.."
The Titans tripled up the Jaguars 21-7 in the first quarter. Howells-Dodge won the second quarter 18-10 to make it a 31-25 game at halftime.
Twin River outscored the Jaguars 26-9 in the third quarter to lead 57-34 after three.
The Titans notched 14 fourth quarter points compared to 12 for Howells-Dodge.
Polacek led the way with 13 points while Mitchell Prusa registered 10. Lund totaled 7.
The Jaguars have played decent basketball as of late. Howells-Dodge hasn't been great, but they've been okay.
The Jaguars (8-11) square off with Bancroft-Rosalie (9-9) Friday night in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation game at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.
The Panthers lost 66-58 at North Bend Central in the tournament quarterfinals Monday night.
Bancroft-Rosalie was playing really good basketball at the beginning of the season, but has since dropped off.
With that said, this should be a pretty good game.
I think both teams have some high quality athletes, and are capable of getting after things.
This is an important game for both teams. Both have to want to be there.
It will be interesting to see how much each team wants it, and how hard they play.
The two teams are set to meet again on Tuesday in Bancroft so I'm curious to see who takes round one.
Friday night's game is up for grabs as far as I'm concerned. I don't see one team really being favored more than the other.
It will be interesting to see how both teams handle tough losses. I think both will handle things just fine and have a good game Friday night, but we will see for sure.
I look for a close, competitive ball game between the two teams. I think things can go either way.
The game is being played on Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family. It's set to start after the Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family/Clarkson/Leigh game, which is slated for a 6:00 p.m. start.
