Stanton Girls top Clarkson/Leigh to end regular season

The Stanton Girls ended the regular season on a high note, winning 56-24 at Clarkson/Leigh.

The Mustangs led the Patriots 23-5 after one. Stanton doubled up Clarkson/Leigh 10-5 in the second quarter to take a 33-10 lead into the locker room.

The Mustangs won the third quarter 9-8 to go up 42-18 at the end of three.

Stanton outscored the Patriots 14-6 in the fourth quarter.

Hiliary Huss led the way with 23 points.

The Mustangs played really well to end the regular season. A win like this was just what Stanton needed.

The Mustangs (16-7) take on Battle Creek (9-16) in Sub District C2-5 at Norfolk Catholic Tuesday night.

The Braves defeated Clarkson/Leigh 39-31 in the play-in game Monday night.

These two teams met in Stanton on January 5th with the Mustangs winning 48-29.

I fully expect Stanton to be primed and ready for this match up.

The Mustangs have a really good shot to go to state, so Stanton has to make the most of their opportunity.

The road to Lincoln starts with Battle Creek on Tuesday, and the Mustangs have to be fired up and raring to go from the get go.

I expect this sub district to come down to Stanton and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

The Bulldogs are playing really good basketball right now although the Mustangs beat them 58-49 on the road on January 2nd.

This is it for Stanton. It's the Mustangs' chance to achieve the goals they set out at the beginning of the season, and take another step towards reaching the state tournament.

Everything Stanton has worked for in the spring, summer, and fall comes into play right now in a big way.

The Mustangs want things to pay off for them. Stanton doesn't want to have done all that work for nothing.

Tuesday's game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:15 p.m.
