Clarkson/Leigh Girls lose to Wisner-Pilger and Oakland-Craig

The Clarkson/Leigh Girls lost 59-35 at home to Wisner-Pilger last Tuesday night before falling 51-41 at Oakland-Craig in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament Friday night.

The Gators and Patriots were tied at 15 at the conclusion of the first quarter. Wisner-Pilger tripled up Clarkson/Leigh 18-6 in the second quarter to lead 33-21 at halftime.

The Gators won the third quarter 13-8 to go up 46-29 at the end of three.

Wisner-Pilger put up 13 fourth quarter points compared to 6 for the Patriots.

Shelby Paprocki had a team-high 9 points.

Oakland-Craig was tied with the Patriots at 14 after one. The Knights won the second quarter 12-8 to lead 26-22 at halftime.

Oakland-Craig outscored Clarkson/Leigh 13-7 in the third quarter to go up 39-29 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 12 fourth quarter points.

Paprocki finished with a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Maddie Cerv recorded 8 points.

The Patriots played at a high level against the Knights, and had Oakland-Craig on the ropes for a little bit.

Clarkson/Leigh (3-16) takes on Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (3-15) at home in a conference tournament consolation game Thursday night.

The Raiders lost 65-15 to Howells-Dodge in the first round of the tournament Friday night.

Scoring has been a big issue for both teams this season, but probably more so for Logan View/Scribner-Snyder than the Patriots.

Clarkson/Leigh is at least able to get into the 30's and 40's whereas the Raiders struggle to get to 20.

Every game is a new game and anything can happen, and so with that in mind, I look for the Patriots to pick up their 4th win of the season.

Something has to give in this game, and I think Clarkson/Leigh's offense will be a little bit stronger than Logan View/Scribner-Snyder's.

There's no guarantees the Patriots will win, but I would say they have a pretty good chance if both teams continue to play the way they have lately.

It would be a big deal for Clarkson/Leigh to win a game in this tournament. The Patriots have to simply pick up where they left off Friday night.

Clarkson/Leigh played well against Oakland-Craig, they just didn't finish. That has to change in this game.

The Patriots and Raiders are set to go at it at 6:00 p.m. It should be a good game between two teams who are no doubt very hungry and anxious to pick up a victory, and end their losing streaks.

Clarkson/Leigh has lost 9 in a row, and has yet to win in 2016 while Logan View/Scribner-Snyder has lost six consecutive games.
