Winnebago Girls 1-2 in last three games

The Winnebago Girls are 1-2 in their last two games, losing 70-60 at Bancroft-Rosalie last Tuesday night, and 56-49 at home in overtime to Pender Thursday night before downing Plainview 65-45 in the first round of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament on Saturday.

Winnebago jumped out to an 18-15 lead on the Panthers at the end of one. Bancroft-Rosalie outscored the Indians 21-15 in the second quarter to take a 36-33 lead into the locker room.

The Panthers tripled up Winnebago 15-5 in the third quarter to go up 51-38 after three.

The Indians won the fourth quarter 22-19.

The Indians led Pender 11-7 after one. The Pendragons won the second quarter 16-11 to go up 23-22 at halftime.

Delicia Payer had a game-high 22 points while Jasmin Colvin and Illeana Frenchman registered 15 and 10, respectively.

Winnebago outscored Pender 15-10 in the third quarter to make it a 37-33 game at the end of three.

The Pendragons scored 13 fourth quarter points and held the Indians to 9 to force overtime.

Pender outlasted Winnebago 10-3 in the extra session.

The Indians led the Pirates 13-9 after one. Winnebago won the second quarter 14-11 to take a 27-20 lead into the locker room.

The Indians outscored Plainview 19-11 in the third quarter to go up 46-31 at the end of three.

Winnebago notched 19 fourth quarter points compared to 14 for the Pirates.

The Indians no doubt played one of their more complete games of the year on Saturday. It was a good win for Winnebago.

The Indians (6-15) take on Emerson-Hubbard (17-1) in the quarterfinals of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament Thursday evening in Walthill.

The Pirates defeated Wakefield 62-29 in the opening round of the tournament on Saturday.

Emerson-Hubbard beat Winnebago 79-63 on the road on January 12th.

I think this game might be closer than some think.

The way the Indians played Saturday was much needed, and if they play that way again Thursday night, I feel Winnebago has a shot.

Payer, Colvin, and Frenchman have to be on top of their game offensively, and the Indians have to play solid defense.

Winnebago is a better team than their record, in my opinion, and is very capable of making things interesting and perhaps winning Thursday night.

Anything can happen in a conference tournament, and the Indians have to play optimistic and believe in themselves.

Winnebago has been close to beating a number of a good teams this season, and I look for the Indians to give the Pirates a game.

I wouldn't be surprised if this game was decided by single digits.

Thursday's game is set to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. in Walthill,
