West Point-Beemer Girls top Tekamah-Herman in East Husker Conference Tournament
The West Point-Beemer Girls defeated Tekamah-Herman Monday evening in the East Husker Conference Tournament, winning 55-51 in West Point.
The Cadets held a one-point lead on the Tigers at the end of one at 18-17. West Point-Beemer won the second quarter 12-11 to go up 30-28 at halftime.
The Cadets outscored the Tigers 13-7 in the third quarter to lead 43-35 at the end of three.
Tekamah-Herman put up 16 fourth quarter points compared to 12 for West Point-Beemer.
Amanda Hansen led the way with 29 points while Taylor Weddle added 7.
The Cadets (18-2) take on Oakland-Craig (15-4) in the semifinals of the tournament in West Point Thursday night.
The Knights defeated Pender 34-26 Monday night.
This should be a very good game between two very good teams.
Oakland-Craig figures to have everyone back after Brynn Charling and Oliva Bures missed some time due to injury and a funeral, respectively.
Hansen, Bruce, Weddle, and others need to go off for West Point-Beemer.
The Cadets also have to play outstanding defense, something they have prided themselves in doing this season.
Defense and Hansen have really carried this team this year. Bruce and Weddle have stepped up at times, but they aren't as consistent as Hansen.
The recipe for success for West Point-Beemer is get their scorers going while limiting the Knights'.
Dacey Nelson, Brynn and Bailey Charling, Emma Reinert, and Bures all need to be held in check for the Cadets to be successful.
It's easier said than done though, You can bet Oakland-Craig will come ready to play and give the Cadets all they can handle.
Listen to Thursday night's game on 107.9 the Bull. It's scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
