Stanton Boys defeat Tekamah-Herman and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in East Husker Conference Tournament

The Stanton Boys are in the semifinals of the East Husker Conference Tournament thanks to a 73-48 home win over Tekamah-Herman on Saturday and an 83-49 home win over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Monday night.

The Mustangs led the Tigers 21-12 at the end of one. Stanton outscored Tekamah-Herman 23-9 in the second quarter to take a 44-21 lead into the locker room.

The Mustangs won the third quarter 20-12 to go up 64-33 at the end of three.

The Tigers scored 15 fourth quarter points compared to 9 for Stanton.

Kyle Sperl had a game-high 26 points while Hunter Stallbaum added 9.

The Mustangs led the Bulldogs 16-13 after one. Stanton outscored Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 26-10 in the second quarter to take a 42-23 lead into the locker room.

The Mustangs won the third quarter 32-15 to go up 74-38 at the end of three.

The Bulldogs put up 11 fourth quarter points compared to 9 for Stanton.

Brook Klinetobe led all scorers with 28 points. Myles Nickolite added 19 while Trey Erbst scored 11. Sperl added 9 while Mitchael Sieh totaled 8. Josh Krentz collected 8 rebounds.

The Mustangs have been on a terror in this tournament so far. Stanton has put up some very impressive offensive numbers, and has played good defense as well.

The Mustangs (16-5) take on Twin River (14-4) in the semifinals of the East Husker Conference Tournament Friday night in North Bend.

The Titans beat Howells-Dodge 71-46 at home Monday night.

Twin River also downed Stanton 57-53 in Stanton last Tuesday night.

This should be another great, classic battle between two very good teams.

It appears the loss to the Titans has fueled and motivated the Mustangs. Stanton is playing at a very high level right now.

With that said, Twin River is playing very good basketball as well and is a legit threat to get to the conference championship game on Saturday in Columbus.

I fully expect this game to go down to the wire and for both teams to get after one another.

We are down to the final four as far as unbeatens in the tournament go. This is an elite group of teams playing ball Friday night.

I could see either Stanton or Twin River getting to the championship. This game is truly a toss up to me.

It will be interesting to see who prevails.

The game is scheduled to begin after the North Bend Central/Lyons-Decatur Northeast contest, which is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.

The game is being played in North Bend.
