Oakland-Craig Girls 2-1 in last three games

The Oakland-Craig Girls are 2-0 so far in the East Husker Conference Tournament, knocking off Clarkson/Leigh 51-41 at home Friday night before winning 34-26 over Pender Monday night in West Point. The Knights fell 57-55 at Lyons-Decatur Northeast Thursday night.

The Cougars jumped on Oakland-Craig 13-6 after one. The Knights outscored Lyons-Decatur Northeast 19-14 in the second quarter to make it a 27-25 game at the half.

Oakland-Craig won the third quarter 17-12 to take a 42-39 lead at the end of three.

The Cougars notched 18 fourth quarter points compared to 13 for the Knights.

Brynn Charling had a game-high 19 points and 8 rebounds while Bailey Charling and Dacey Nelson added 12 points apiece.

Oakland-Craig was tied with the Patriots at 14 after one. The Knights won the second quarter 12-8 to lead 26-22 at halftime.

Oakland-Craig outscored Clarkson/Leigh 13-7 in the third quarter to go up 39-29 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 12 fourth quarter points.

Nelson finished with a team-high 16 points while Reinert notched 13 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Bailey Charling added 9 points while Shannon Pille totaled 7.

Head Coach Joe Anderson's Knights were missing two of their starters...but still managed to win.

"We have some girls down here that know can play. Shannon Pille and Melanie (Snader) and girls like that that maybe haven't been scoring as much lately that scored a lot for us last year when we didn't have Bailey out there last year and Dacey out there. Those guys had to really step up in a scoring role, so it was good to get them out there, get them a lot of minutes. And this is going to help us as we go further in the tournament with experience in a tight game like that."

The Pendragons led 6-5 after one. The Knights doubled up Pender 12-6 in the second quarter to take a 17-12 lead into the locker room.

Oakland-Craig outscored the Pendragons 12-7 in the third quarter to lead 29-19 at the end of three.

Pender won the fourth quarter 7-5.

Nelson led the way with 19 points. Brynn Charling chipped in 10 rebounds while Olivia Bures had 8.

The Knights have done well to get where they are in the tournament. Oakland-Craig has overcome some injury and player absence issues to get over the hump.

The Knights (15-4) battle West Point-Beemer (18-2) Thursday night in the East Husker Conference Tournament Semifinals in West Point.

The Cadets beat Tekamah-Herman 55-51 Monday night.

West Point-Beemer has been pretty consistent all season long for the most part. The Cadets are led by Amanda Hansen, McKenzie Bruce, and Taylor Weddle.

West Point-Beemer is also very strong defensively.

I feel Oakland-Craig has capable scorers and a strong defense as well though.

The Knights don't have a player like Hansen, but Oakland-Craig probably has better scorers overall than the Cadets do.

This game could truly go either way, in my opinion. The game being on West Point-Beemer's home floor really helps the Cadets, but don't count out the Knights.

A trip to Columbus is on the line, and I fully expect Oakland-Craig to play well. I think you will see a hungry and determined Knights' team on the floor Thursday night.

The game figures to be close and hotly contested. It wouldn't surprise me if West Point-Beemer or Oakland-Craig won.

These two teams play again to end the regular season so even if the Knights don't get the Cadets this time around, they will have another shot before the regular season ends.
